Post How Does One Go About Being Saved?

Hello all. My name is George, and I've only been registered on this forum for about 2 weeks. I have a Christian question that only a saved Christian can answer.

How does one go about being saved? What do I do? What are the first steps? And how would I go about making the "LEAP OF FAITH"? These questions remain in my mind and I need to be saved by the Lord: Jesus Christ, or I will perish. I need to accept God into my life and it has to be on a personal level (as I have been told numerous times). I truly do believe in the Lord. All I need is someone to help me and "guide" me upon my way toward being saved.

Thank you for the attention and help. GOD BLESS.

-George

George,

welcome to the site.

I grew up going to church. I've since fallen away. I've been brought up to believe, he that believe's and is baptised shall be saved.

I belive, God sent Jesus to die for all of us so, we could have everlasting life.
With that being said, I also believe, go and do unto others as I have done for you.
Most of my waking hours each day is centered on the fact that, I'm a sinner and it's by God's love for us that we are saved. In all things we do, let them be pleasing to God.

Give God praise for all your blessings, ask Gods in prayer to guide you thru out the day and what ever you do for the least of your neighbor you do unto God.

Do not be easily discouraged, no one among us on earth is without sin. Keep in constant prayer and your faith for God will increase. be aware, that Satan will try and trip you the closer you get to God.

The Lord's prayer is a great prayer to say during the day.

Peace be with you

great question

Hello. In response to your question I just want you to know that being saved isnt something you have to do in front of a church- you can do it right in your own home. Basically you talk to God and you pray- you ask God for forgiveness for your sins, tell him that you believe in and love him and that you want to live for Him- that you accept Jesus Christ as your savior and that is it. The important thing is to MEAN it - not how you say it.
I have been a Christian my whole life, but only in the past few years have I REALIZED how much it means to really believe and have Jesus in my heart.
The main desire of a Christian is to model Jesus' behavior- to the best of our ability of course and talk to Him regularly- about everything- big things and little things-
He is open and ready to receive you- he is waiting for you to invite Him into your heart. The more time you spend with Him, thinking about Him and his sacrifice, reading His word, listening to praise/worship music the better you will get to know Him.
Living with Jesus as your savior is a one day at a time thing too- I screw up alot everyday- get envious or really mad for example- you just ask God to forgive you and keep on keeping on- you do the best you can- that is all God expects and he knows your heart- he knows if you are sincere or not. It doesnt matter what people see - rather what He knows....
I congratulate you on your walk with God and pray that He will bless you in every way imaginable-peace, joy, health and prosperity.
Each one of us was created for a purpose. That purpose is realized when we begin living God's way-

Hello George and welcome!

I cannot add anymore to sarah13's response, since she quite adequately answered your question.

I can only encourage you that after you have made your confession that you get involved in a church where you feel like you fit and can worship Jesus.

I also highly recommend that you be water baptised because He instructs us to make this public profession of our faith and because (and I don't know how to explain it) it does help us to walk this walk.

May the Lord Jesus bless and bless you.

My Appreciation Is Of Greatness

Thank you everyone, as you have helped me on my way to finding God in my heart, and soul. I will listen to what all of you have said. Most of all, one of you said that doing favors for people on earth is like doing something for God. I agree, and my father said the same thing.

Everyday we (my father and I) pick up a black man and give him a ride to the methadone clinic. I am also registered at the same clinic. His house is out of the way, but because my father and I are both Christians, we believe it is only right to help someone who is in need. Also, it is good for our faith and keeps it strong and going.

I want to say thanks once again to everyone for helping me on my way to being saved as a Christian.

-Much love, George

George,
If you have professed that Jesus is your Savior and acknowledge that He is the Son of God, confessed that you are a sinner and want to repent, You are saved.
You are already a child of God and He loves you more than you can imagine. You are already walking the walk by helping the man with transportation. " Just as you would to to the least of these, you do for me".
I encourage you to find a church that you feel at home in, where you are welcomed and loved unconditionally and can get in to the Word. I also recommend reading, ( the Bible, of course!) but a book called "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. You can find it at most Christian bookstores. It is a wonderful book that guides you scriptually through the questions of why you were created!

George, believing in the Lord, Jesus Christ IS being saved, and sounds like you've got that one covered. Asking forgiveness of your sins is part of this too. And, asking for forgiveness every day helps me.

I agree with the above, please try to find a local church. A church family is very important in your Christian walk. It will help "guide" you into this personal relationship you seek. Another thing that really helps a personal relationship, is talking (praying) to God. Don't be afraid to TALK TO HIM as if he was your good friend - and pretty soon, He will become your best friend! This will help your personal relationship.

There are different philosophies on being saved. Many believe once saved, always saved. The reason I am telling you this is because, some "new" Christians, feel like they keep failing (sinning) and therefore, must not be saved. This isn't true at all. God's grace and Jesus Christ's blood saved you. So, you ARE SAVED and no one can take that away from you.

Welcome!

By faith and faith alone are we saved. Faith in the grace of God that He will do and has done what has been written.

As we say with our lips...we believe in Jesus, we must also say with our actions as well.
Faith without works is nothing just as works without faith equals nothing also.

The reason we are baptised is to say out loud to the world... by my actions this day I am telling the world I accept Jesus.

Demons believe AND know who Jesus is. They believe why are they not saved? We also need to seek forgiveness and repentance of our sinful ways.
As we turn from evil (repent) and believe in our hearts that Jesus died for our sins... Then we are saved/accepted/looked upon by God as being clean and holy.
I stand in the shadow of Jesus. Covered by His blood that was spilled on the cross. God does not see my sins but sees Jesus. Protected and shadowed by Jesus, I may enter the gates of heaven.

How does one go about being saved?

God's Word makes it plain that His will is for all men to be saved and come unto a knowledge of the truth. It also states that His Word is truth. Jesus made clear in John 3:1-8 and 3:16-17 that a new birth, being born again of God's spirit is the key. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life; and, as Peter said in Acts, there is salvation in no other name.

And God makes it so simple.

Romans 10:9 tells you all you need to know and do: (1) Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. (2) Believe in heart that God raised Jesus from the dead.

Jesus gave his life for us. He bought us with that price. In so doing, Jesus became our Lord. The Scriptures state over and over the many who saw Jesus alive after God raised him from the dead. See for example Acts 1:1-8.

Once you are saved, you have Christ in you, the hope of glory. You are sealed with that holy spirit of promise.

That's all there is to it. Walking by the spirit rather than by the flesh is the tough part. The truth as to how to walk by the spirit, how to obey God, and how to live the abundant life are laid out in the Word.

God Bless, Dick B. http://www.dickb.com/index.shtml

Eightball,
WOW !!! This is the most important question of your life, so please don't take any chance on listening to the wrong answer. Please, for your own soul's sake, reseach each person's answer to you in the Bible, including this one.

God's Plan of Salvation

1. Hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17; Acts 16:32)
2. Believing what is taught (Mark 16:16; Hebrews 11:6)
3. Repentance (Acts 2:38; Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30)
4. Confession (Romans 10:9,10; Acts 8:37)
5. Baptism (Acts 2:38; Mark16:16; I Peter 3:21; Romans 6:3,4)
6. After the above 5 steps, Faithful Christian Living ( I Peter 2:11,12; Revelation 2:10)

I read the Bible as saying that man is saved by faith alone.

I think that is what I will do. Just believe. Have BLIND FAITH. Take the Leap of Faith. I have realized and read up on this whole matter, and have found one answer: Repent for your sins, and believe. Everything else comes naturally. Thanks BubbaBob. And everyone else for helping me on this matter.

Much love to you all: -EightBall

Finding truth from many answers

There are many, many opinions about how to be saved among Christians. Too often each claims to be the "only" way.

All I can say is be guided by your own concience. Begin the journey! You already know you want to do it.

In my church, we are taught none of us are "saved" once and for all time. We are truly saved and "born again" when baptized, but as humans with the choice to follow God's teachings or be led astray we have always to be vigilant. We all sin. What we do next is what matters. Do you acknowledge your sins and understand you must not sin again? That's the first step. Telling God about it is the next.

In the Roman church confession is given and, if I understand it correctly, a priest gives the confessor instructions for penance.

My church preceeds the Roman church which split away from us in 1054 over changes the West made to the Creed. Yes, I'm Eastern Orthodox. We give confession to God and the priest listens. Our confessions mean we admit the guilt of our sin, and desire sincerely to repent and never again commit the same sin. But we fall down and keep getting up and trying again and again until we get it right. But, we are never saved absolutely. A un-noticed thought can be a sin that darkens the soul. Our evangelical friends ask "Are you saved?" Our response is "No. But we are being saved."

By the way, I am a convert to the Orthodox Church. I was an Episcopalian after high school (1966) until 1996. I'm not Russian, but I love the culture and the Russian Orthodox Church so much that I am now among the lowest rank of clergy and I'm the choir director in my parish.

Have you ever heard of the "Jesus prayer?" "O Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."

We are three weeks into Great Lent even though all Western churches celebrated Easter last weekend. Or was it two weekends ago? During this time we relect on our sins and strive to improve ourselves. This prayer is perfomed at special services during Lent: " O Lord, and Master of my life, do not give me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love to Thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou unto the ages of ages. Amin."

Thank you for your very simple, yet direct response. I appreciate your caring about my being saved. Any good believer would do what you have done. That was a good deed my friend. Indeed you will be repaid in life or in Heaven for what you have done. It means a lot to me. I will do what you have told me. It sounds like you really know what you're talking about. I will go about doing exactly what you said, and as it is said: "The relationship between God and I must be personal, otherwise, it cannot exist."

You have a good lent. I am extremely pleased with your text message. Finally, someone who really KNEW what they were talking about. A million thanks =

GO to this site, all the information is here.

http://www.users.bigpond.com/rdoolan/bornagain.html

Pray something like this to God:

“Dear Father in Heaven, I realize that I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sin. I am willing to turn from my sins and lead the life you want me to lead. I now invite Jesus Christ to come into my heart and I receive Him into my life as my personal Savior. I am willing, by God's grace, to follow and obey Christ as the Lord of my life.”

May God Bless you.
