| Letting Go of Our Grudges.
One Saturday evening a married couple came to talk to me.Both husband and wife were equally convinced that the other spouse had caused the breakdown of their marriage. Both had notebooks in which they had recorded the wrongs the other person had commited. They had carefully logged their grudges. Letting go of our grudges is one of the most difficult things in life.Betrayal by a spouse, abuse commited by a parent or someone else, disrespect by a child,a stab in the back by a friend---all these kinds of things leave deep scars and are difficult to overlook. As a result, some folks go through life weighed down by the burden of a grudge they can't leave behind. The Lord Jesus tells us to let go of our grudges and forgive.Carrying a grudge will wear us down and keep us from becoming what God wants us to be in the coming year and for the rest of our lives. Don't go into a new year with whatever grudge you might have. It's too heavy to carry, and it's too dangerous to face life without God's forgiveness.Maybe you need to make a phone call or a visit to get rid of your grudge.Make sure you ask the Holy Spirit to help you say or do the right thing as you let go. Prayer..... Father in heaven, some of us have been hurt so deeply that we have a hard time letting go.Please give us the grace to forgive. In Jesus',name we pray...Amen... Thanks for letting me share. |

This whole post is right on key, these grudges(resentments) can really weigh a person down' this kind of weight on our shoulders is deminishing even to the strongest of men(women) It isn't always easy to overcome a grudge but it is so important that we do. Mark 11:25 - And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. Mark 11:26 - But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. Quote:

Thanks for your post, Cap. I am a recovering Christian who struggled many years with the word forgiveness. After much prayer and therapy I was able to forgive my mother who was so cruel to us children. We no longer see each other because each time I try to make amends with her she continues to rebuke me. My friends in recovery often say I will regret not connecting to her before she dies however I don't think so. I have repeatedly gone to her and been denied, she continues in her cruel ways and I have come to a point where I need to put my sobriety first. I pray for her but no longer travel to be slayed by her. My therapist once said that a man may be able to forgive a murder for murdering one of his children but he is certainly not going to send his other children to live with the murderer. I understood that in relation to mother. I don't understand why my friends hound me about this. Any thoughts would be welcome and thanks again. |
