In the Light

Key Passage: John 1:1-18

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. (John 1:9, ESV)

If you did nothing but read and think about John 1:1-18 for your daily time in the Bible for an entire month, you'd probably have a better grasp of who Jesus is than most people. This passage probably presents the most complete and concise description of Jesus' nature and ministry found in the Bible.

Describing Jesus as the true light is very powerful.

Think of all that light does on this planet. Without light there's no life. Without light nothing would grow. If there was no light, the beauty of nature would not be visible.

All these things are true of Jesus.

This Light shines on everyone. But some people choose to stay in the dark. And that's a tragedy. Just like a mother may tell her kids to get out of the dark basement and go outside, the message of the Bible is inviting us to come into the light of Jesus.

One last thing about light: Darkness can never overpower it. Though there seems to be more darkness in the universe than light, no star was ever extinguished by the blackness.

And when you come into the light of Jesus, the darkness of sin and death will never be able to touch you again.
