| Blessed After All
Key Passage: Genesis 36 Topic: Doubt/Fear; God's Care; Relationships Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, his livestock, all his beasts, and all his property that he had acquired in the land of Canaan. He went into a land away from his brother Jacob. For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together. (Genesis 36:6-7, ESV) If you like family trees, this passage is right up your alley! And hopefully your skill at sounding out words is pretty good because Esau and Eliphaz are the easier ones to pronounce. But hidden amongst a lot of names and a lot of family history, we find a story of redemption--an update on Esau, a guy who went through some rough times back in Genesis 27. After being tricked and cheated by his brother Jacob, Esau could have thought that his life was over--that God had turned His back on him and he could resign himself to a miserable and unblessed life. Well, his thoughts couldn't have been further from the truth. As we see here, Esau is enjoying God's material blessings so much that he dare not live too close to his brother, Jacob, because of space issues. Yes, Esau, the one cheated out of his birthright and special blessing from God, is enjoying God's goodness in plenty. God doesn't pick a few people to be blessed and then turn everyone else away. And just because our blessings don't look like our neighbor's or they come on a different timeline doesn't mean we're any less valuable to God. We're all loved equally. So no matter your name, your heritage, your color, your education, God is all about showing His goodness to us. And may His goodness encourage us to move closer to Him every day. NotReligion - Home |
