Key Passage: Genesis 24:59-67 Topic: God's Care; Bible Characters And Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there were camels coming. (Genesis 24:63, ESV) If you've been reading these Insights over the last few days, you know that Abraham's servant, Eliezer, had been sent on a mission: to go back to Abraham's home country and choose a wife for his son, Isaac. Now we find Isaac meditating in a field. It's evening but it's not too dark for Isaac to see. He's alone, probably still grieving the loss of his mother, Sarah. His father is old now. The family's trusted servant has been gone a long time finding him a wife. He doesn't know what she'll look like or what she'll be like. Isaac is in that place where we've all been: he must trust God and wait. And then he looks up and catches sight of something--camels. So Eliezer has returned and his intended wife has arrived. Isaac's waiting is over! His days of wondering what God has in store for him (in terms of marriage anyway) are over. And the next step in life is before him. What happened next? Well, Isaac married Rebekah. You might be wondering how their marriage worked out since they'd never met or even seen each other before this moment. The Bible tells us that "he loved her" and that he "was comforted after his mother's death." Sometimes the hardest moments for us are when we must trust God and wait. But the same God who saw Isaac walking alone, meditating at dusk, who knew Isaac's heart, knows us. He sees our needs and provides for us--sometimes even more than we might hope for. God did it for Isaac. He gave Isaac a wife who not only comforted him but she was a woman he would love. At the right time and in the right way, He'll meet our needs as well. NotReligion - Home |
