| Shipwrecked!
You are reading the daily devotional from NotReligion. Key Passage: Acts 27:27-44 Topic: God's Care And fearing that we might run on the rocks, they let down four anchors from the stern and prayed for day to come. (Acts 27:29, ESV) The apostle Paul had been on board ship for two weeks! The journey had not been easy from the moment they set sail. It was late in the year and a storm could come up without notice. And so Paul, a prisoner, the ship's crew and other prisoners found their boat being driven across the Mediterranean in the dark of a treacherous night. Suddenly the sailors realized they might be approaching land. They tested the depth of the water a couple of times and, sure enough, the winds were forcing them toward an island. But instead of joy everyone on board was afraid! They could run aground on some rocks, the ship would be broken in pieces and many would die. So, they dropped four anchors and prayed for daylight to come. Perhaps you've never been in an actual shipwreck. But you've likely experienced the darkness of uncertainty, the fear associated with an emotional, financial or physical "shipwreck." Maybe, like the sailors, you've done everything you know to do. And now you're just "praying for daylight"--an end to the pain--a glimmer of light and hope. God is in charge in your situation as He was in this shipwreck. Just like God promised, every person on the ship survived. God was with His servant, Paul, even on a dark, restless sea, even during a bad storm, even in a shipwreck. And God is with you right now--whatever you're facing. © 2009 NotReligion |

Thanks CMC...I heard in an AA meeting once the shipwreck analogy. Being a true lover of Lake Superior, bodies of water in general, and ships, I immediately related. I told the gentleman after the meeting that he had helped me so much that day, and he was shocked but humbled. I told him that I now think of God (as I must have subconsciously all along) as the lighthouse...and even with all the times I have wrecked, and wrecked good, God has always been that light, drawing me closer and leading me home to Him.

The recent crash of USAirways flight #1549 is a timely example of such miracles. It's something I need to take note of when I'm facing my own struggles and fear; and remember not to forget to place my complete trust in God. | |

hmm I thought, I'd made a comment to this the other day. I love to sail and the title caught my eye when, you posted it. I equate God like the wind. I can't see the wind but, I can see the power behind the wind upon the sails. I can never assume, because, I can't see God he isn't all powerful
