You are reading the daily devotion from NotReligion. September 16, 2008 Key Passage: Matthew 21:12-17 Topic: Worship/Praise/Worthiness And they said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes; have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise'?" (Matthew 21:16, ESV) I love to hear a little child thank and praise God. They're often so simple and direct, and they cover all the works of God: from bugs to puppies, moms and dads, even macaroni-and-cheese for supper. It's like they're still in touch with what truly comes from the hand of God. You see that in today's reading too. Jesus was once again in the Temple, first to "clean house" and then to change lives through His miracles of healing. And the wonder of it led to a spontaneous praise celebration that included children! They saw Jesus as the Son of David, and they gave God praise. Of course, the temple leaders were all bent out of shape about it, but Jesus took them back to God's Word. In fact, He borrowed David's own words in Psalm 8: "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger." (Psalm 8:1-2, ESV) Of course the children had a reason to give praise! Jesus was among them; the Lord who'd created the heavens and earth was right there. They recognized Him, even when the most religious men didn't. So, what do you see of God's awesome works? Of His Son, Jesus, our Savior and the Son of David? Does it make you break into praise? Take a cue from these children and simply, sincerely, passionately, praise God for His gift of Jesus. When my bipolar swings low...like now...I forget to praise. Really. Things negative are at the forefront and everything has a grey tinge, and tears are not far away. This thread reminds me we are to "put on the garment of praise"... I am going to do just that! I know it works. "The Lord inhabits the praises of His people." I may not "feel like it"..but I will obey and worship. And soon..I will break into break into praise. Thank you cmc
