| Letting Go
Hello everyone, this is only my first week sober and reading everything that has been posted for the past week has really helped to change my thought process. Last night I went to hang out with my "friends" and of course they were smoking and drinking and it was very hard to stay there. I didnt give them a reason for leaving but the truth was I couldnt handle temptation and Ironically they were watching the Devils advocate and the seens in the movie made me feel sick to my stomach so I just got up and left. I realized that I have to say goodbye to those people if I truly want to be with christ. I have already given them a horrible testimony because of my drug problem and the fact that I call myself a christian. Please pray that God takes care of those people and that he leads them to his light. I dont feel I should witness to them because I cant stay sober around them and I have tried to stay sober and witness to them in the past and failed. So please pray that I can let them go and have the faith to trust our Father will take care of them. |

Christ will take care of your friends as well as you. It is sad when you have to let go of friends but sometimes this is needed to help yourself. In time your friends will see the new you and let Christ help them as well. For now take your own sobriety one minute at a time, before you know it a minute is and hour and then an hour turnsinto aday and so on and so forth. I will keep you and your friends inmy prayers. Stay strong. Shawn |

:praying Praying for you! By putting your sobriety first, you will be a "silent" witness from afar to your friends. Even though you have to leave them behind to protect your sobriety... your sobriety and living a better life serving the Lord will be your testimony. When they are ready for change, they'll remember the peace and serenity you have found.

New Creation, I can oh sooo relate to that! Back in 1991 I was a meth addict. I had received Christ in May of 89 but every time I went back around those guys I relapsed. I can remember one particular time feeling like such a hypocrite being high and God came up. One guy said, it is ppl like you who really make me never want to be a Christian. It was shortly after that I just left them all behind and got clean and sober! (I was living in SD at the time too, Spring Valley to be exact...small world, I know) Fast forward to 2002....(those ppl were my friends you know) I was leading worship at my church and I looked down from the stage and saw the guy who had said that. Later I learned he had lung cancer and he did die, but not before he received Christ as his Savior! Also, 2 other ppl from that time frame have gotten and stayed clean, although they are not Christians. Anyway, i feel your pain. Just get involved with a Church and recovery and meet some new ppl. God will take care of them, pray for them as they come to mind, but really, it is time to move on, you know that. blessings, Sheila |
