Hello Everyone!

Hi and thanks for being here..honestly. I googled 'bible verses for addiction' and the very first link that came up was one to your forums.

I'm here because I'm struggling with my mom. She's been an addict since before I was born (I'm 28) and although I've been a believer for about 8 years now..I'm just now having the faith to intercede for her.

So I'm here to ask,

what was it that finally showed all of you that you needed the Lord?
Absolutely nothing but her humility is going to save my mother. I'm just torn over this because I'm trying to stand on God's promises in the word...while watching her kill herself. No human suggestions or ideas are really going to work and I know that. It's just nice to see that other people have gotten out of what she's in now.

Thanks again!

Welcome to SR BrokenDaughter

God's promises... Pray and wait but continue to pray as you wait.

As for human suggestions or ideas...
We can't change another, only God can change a person's heart.
We can be the light of hope to another (share what has worked for others with those who seek answers)
and We can and should be sharing the Good News... Jesus, with others.
As we do the above...pray, pray, and pray.

Where the human suggestions or ideas do work the best...
Support of others and for others. Al Anon and Nar Anon meetings are filled with people that have experiences, strengths, and hopes that can help us better understand and deal with those in our life that use and abuse alcohol or drugs.

Have a look around and maybe stop by the Friends and family forums. Read the posts at the top of the forums that say "sticky" beside them. I am sure you will find some insight in them.

Adding my prayers to your's as well.

Welcome to SR! The above listed links and resources are very helpful. Once you visit the links that best gave you- don't forget to take a look at the sticky threads at the top of each page. You'll fine more resources there.

There is hope for your mom...and for you. Many of us here have family and friends who continue to live outside of what is God's best choice for them. I can't control what another does...but can only control my own choices and beliefs.

I continue to learn as much as I can about this disease, work on myself and continue to pray for those who still suffer. My son is a recovering addict with almost two years clean and I remember what it was like to watch him slowly destroy his health and his life.

I find the best support for my own needs by coming here and attending Alanon.

SR is full of people from several types of recovery programs. In addition to the other forums here on SR, I hope you continue to come by this spot and share in the Christian fellowship we enjoy with one another.
