If any of you out there work/volunteer with young people....young people's ministries....anything along those lines (and to me, being 61, a lot of ages fall into the 'young people' category....lol) --- but I just read this wonderful book: Touchdown Alexander, by Shaun Alexander, with Cecil Murphey. For those of you who don't know, Shaun Alexander is running back for the Seattle Seahawks....former running back for the Crimson Tide (Alabama)....and a heck of a nice young fella (he's just 30). He is also a member of FCA (the Fellowship of Christian Athletes)and is ordained. The book is about his faith, football (one of my fave subjects), and pursuing the dream.........he also started and still works with the Shaun Alexander Foundation...which empowers young men through education, athletics, character programs, and leadership training...to inspire kids to reach their full potential as mentors and then act as role models for the next generation...in short, they mentor your men to change the world...to see young men become positive role models and change the lives of those they influence. He admits in this book that he considers himself to be a blessed man.....and if you read this book, and read up on his record, you too may see how blessed he actually is.....I believe this book might help young folks.....especially since at least the young males will probably know who he is..... One of the things he talks about, that I found terrific, was/is his views on sex outside of marriage....and he states that he realized early in his life that he was not going to have sex until he was married.....and he didn't. We need more young men like this young men.....(not just young men who wait till marriage, but young men who also take that stand and let it be know to any and all). Enough of this...............I could go on and on.....but I'll let y'all check it out for yourselves........or not..... (o: but I really think you'll find it a very positive and easy read..... They hold an award ceremony in my area (maybe all over as well) that gives out awards for atheletes that are Christian and shine for Christ. I was surprised to find out how many pro sports players are professing Christians. The Red Sox has a group of players that hold bible study and prayer meetings at Fenway before games. It is good to hear of such things being made public. May they all hear... Thank you, kind and faithful servant.

Just an aside...my daughters and their families attend The Rock...in Pt. Loma...the pastor is Miles McPherson, a former San Diego Charger. I have gone there with them...a mega church with a fantastic youth and inner city ministry. Yes, God is using athletes!
