Another good source I've found is e-Sword.....: e-Sword - the Sword of the LORD with an electronic edge It's a downloadable pgm with many Bible versions (many of which are free), Commentaries, Dictionaries, and note taking....... What I like the best is that I don't have to be online to access it..... (o: NoelleR |

Thanks so much Nan... A sweet but pushy relative after church on Sunday was expounding the danger of (not) using just the old (Authorized) King James.... Phooey...

The NIV is maybe the best word for word translation, even more correct in the word for word then the NKJ but... Then comes the New American Standard and that is a good translation of phrase for phrase translation or meaning for meaning translation but... The but in each case is the English language falls short. We don't have enough words like the Greek or Hebrew words have. An example is the word love...we only have one word that means love where the Greek has 3. By reading from different translations and seeing the common understanding between them, we can better grasp the full meaning of what is written. I do not like the Message bible translation because it tends to leave out so much original wording but the Message sure does a good job of showing todays word usage as it applies to centuries old text. A look at all but we each have our favorite and by using them all, our favorite can tell us even more about what is on the pages. Either that or learn Greek and Hebrew *LOL*

Did you know that the King James Version corrected the orginal Greek on one word?.......The word Easter (found only once) was translated from the Greek word for Passover. When the occasion (Peter's release from jail) was scheduled after Easter the Pagan celebration, and not the Passover. The Passover had already occured. It is so important to seek the Holy Spirit when reading Scriptures. Meanings may vary. I find the Bible to be a Living collection of words and thoughts that are timeless and also timely....... My 2 cents..........I love you and you can't do anything about it......toad

Thank you for the corrections. Without the Holy Spirit opening our eyes and ears...we may not understand any translation. I find it very important to ask for guidance before opening up scripture for reading and study.

Yes.... My relative said the NIV is satanic.... And had me read a pamphlet...but I am a rebel...and I do like to make up my own mind... but we are instructed to do so! And I am not one of those those "silly women" Paul speaks of .. *Lol* I love to study...and I do recognize thee are translations that leave out the deity and Lordship of Jesus... Anathema! But we are to study as Paul admonished Timothy..rightly dividing the Word of Truth...and we do have the indwelling Holy Spirit who shows us all things. And he always speaks of the Lord.
