I can be listening to secular songs and in my mind turn them into a prayer or praise song.

This one song had a girl singing about a boy. She was saying...He is everything I want, everything I need, says all the right things at exactly the right time.

But as I listened to the song, in my thoughts I was asking...Is she talking about Jesus or is she talking about some guy she likes?
The song became a song about Jesus in my thoughts as I listened.

Before becoming a Christian or knowing the history of the song, I always thought of it as just another nice song. The history of the song is this... Paul Simon was feeling down and just as is the case when we listen to a church sermon, the message delivered fits just what we needed in the moment.
The sermon was that of Jesus being our bridge over troubled waters and from that sermon, Paul wrote the song.

This song used to have a special meaning for me when somebody close to me was lost in the world of active addiction.

When I hear it now, I place the focus on myself and how I need to remember Who never fails to offer me His unconditional love- if I will only allow it.

Doing things my way will never bring me the peace and serenity that I find when I surrender to the Lord.
