| Doesn't use this site anymore | I can't bring myself to turn to God
I haven't had a proper conversation with God in years. I know that he can give me the strength to overcome this and my mom keeps telling me to do so, but something in me just can't do it. Being brought up in a very strong Mormon (Christian) family with very strict beliefs was hard as I am now the only child that has strayed from my religion, no longer goes to church and does nearly everything our church tells us not to. I haven't prayed in months and usually don't feel I'm in the right frame of mind to have a clear conversation with God. Can I do this alone? Do I really need God to help me? Britt x |

You can turn to the people who support you right now. Because you are never alone in this. That is why people are here to help each other. I had that problem years ago about asking God for help. I felt quilty because I was not sure I even wanted to quit. But that was what was going on with me. Just wanted to let you know that. Anyway, when I was ready to ask God for help, I did. I believe that God works through people so people helped me. Hope this helps

Welcome to the forum! I'm not sure what the right frame of mind to pray would be. The Psalms show the thoughts and prayers of a man who had terrible troubles, doubts and serious character flaws; yet God called David "a man after Mine own heart." (1 Sam. 13:14) When I find myself at a crossroads confused about what I want, need or believe; a simple "Please help me Lord." is more than sufficient. Reading the bible is the best way to know Him and His ways. No fancy words or religion is required for me to have a heart to heart with God. Thanks for sharing here and I hope you will keep in touch. |

For me, when I find that I cannot talk to Him is the time that I need to talk to Him most. He wants us to come to Him. He wants us to lay all our burdens at our feet. I agree with the above posts. Delve into Gods word. Your prayer to Him does not have to be any fancy words & it does not matter what frame of mind we are in. He still loves us. He still cares for us. He still is there, patiently waiting for us to call on Him so He can help us. I have prayed in happiness, sadness, fear, lonliness, helplessness, been joyous & grateful & have also been negative & angry. He still loves us. He wants to hear from us. He knows your heart already. He is just waiting for you to share it with Him. Here are a couple verses from the bible that I hope will help: Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. ~ Mark 11:24-25 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:4-7 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. ~ Matthew 7:7-8 I know that when you have been away from Him for a long time, it seems really hard to get back to Him, but please know that all you have to do is ask & He is right there waiting for you. He has missed you & would love to hear from you. Much love & much hugs to you.

Hi again Britt! (i just commented on another of your posts) I love your honesty. God knows your heart. You should just tell the Lord exactly how you feel. Just pray and ask him to reveal himself to you in a way that is true and the uncompromised word of God. Tell him you don't know how to pray ask the Lord Jesus to guide you through his holy Spirit. Pick up the Bible and read through the book of John, just one chapter a day. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us..... John 1:1 Can you see by this verse that Jesus was the word? he came to earth to give you life! I pray you would find him as you seek Him with your whole heart. blessings, Sheila feel free to ask me any questions! |

God already knows how you feel ...He knows everything. Now just talk to Him... Simple. He's been waiting awhile for it...so just talk like you're talking to us. Ah Brittany..He loves you so..just don't be afraid. Love and prayers.... IO

Just wanted you guys to know how much this forum and your posts are appreciated. In the beginning of my spiritual awakening ( realizing there was a God and I wasn't Him) I thought I was so unique; that no one suffered like I did, and that everyone else looked like they were enjoying themselves in their drinking/drugging eating whatever. Admitting I was powerless simply got me off the hamster wheel. Learning to give my life to Jesus is what has given me the strength to stay off the wheel. Thank you for your honest sharing and I pray that we can learn to trust others and God in this sacred time of honest sharing -I feel honored to be here. God bless you all!
