Christmas Hymns

Some Christmas hymns touch me more than others. This one hits the spot.
I pray that we all will not forget the Babe who came in humility, died in painful shame, arose on the third day in wondrous Glory and waits with open arms for all who desire to follow Him.

Please feel free to post your favorite Christmas hymns or spiritual songs.

Sweet Little Jesus Boy
Written by Robert Mac Gimsey

CHORUS:
Sweet little Jesus boy
They made You be born in a manger
Sweet little Holy child,
We didn't know who You were
Sweet little Jesus boy
They made You be born in a manger
Sweet little Holy child,
We didn't know who You were
We didn't know who You were

Didn't know You'd
Come to save us Lord
To take our sins away
Our eyes were blind
We could not see
We didn't know who You were
We didn't know who You were

Long time ago You were born
Born in a manger
Sweet little Jesus boy
The world treats You mean Lord,
Treats me mean too
But that's how things are down here
We don't know who You are (x4)

You have told us how, we are trying
Master, you've shown us how,
Even when you were dying
Just seems like we can't do right,
Look how we treated You
But please Sir, forgive us Lord
We didn't know it was You
We didn't know it was You (x3)
Sweet little Jesus boy,
Born a long time ago
Sweet little Holy child,
We didn't know who You were

As I learn the history of some songs, they gain more meaning.

Silent Night is a song filled with history.
A church in the mountains of Austria on Christmas eve...
The pastor realized that the organ was broken.

Oh no... it will be a silent serve with no music and song.
He wrote Silent Night and another man in the church played his guitar for the music to the song.

I picture a snow covered peak and a small white church atop the mountain and a pastor who counts his blessings rather then look at what isn't going well in the moment is what gave us that song.
The song also brought about a cease fire as a German soldier played Silent Night out on the battle field on Christmas.

Silent Night!
The origin of the Christmas carol we know as Silent Night was a poem that was written in 1816 by an Austrian priest called Joseph Mohr. On Christmas Eve in 1818 in the small alpine village called Oberndorf it is reputed that the organ at St. Nicholas Church had broken. Joseph Mohr gave the poem of Silent Night (Stille Nacht) to his friend Franz Xavier Gruber and the melody for Silent Night was composed with this in mind. The music to Silent Night was therefore intended for a guitar and the simple score was finished in time for Midnight Mass. Silent Night is the most famous Christmas carol of all time!

Silent Night, Holy Night

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child.
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds quake at the sight,
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing alleluia;
Christ the Savior, is born!
Christ the Savior, is born!

Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.
