| In need of a Church - Problem
I'm a 'new' Christian. I've been more and more of a Christian over the course of the year. The way it came about was quite amazing, but I'd like to save that story for some other time. I do have a problem with sleep meds, and anxiety etc. Depression has slowly been going down. Many issues, too many to count here. The question I ask everyone here is "How did you find your denomination of church?" Was it because you grew up with it in your family, or because the ideas of one denomination were more what you felt in your heart? I ask because of this. I go to Church, the only one that is Christian near my home. They are of the Four Squares Church. They are nice people, and my friend is a pastor there. He, I can talk to more openly. He is more liberal when it comes to certain parts that he's 'suppose' to believe. However, when I talk and try to get information from the other pastor, I get "This is right, this is wrong." And it's like a debate. I explain "I can't change my mind on this topic just because I'm told to. My heart tells me differently." Anyways, I've been trying to find a church that most follows what I believe to be true from what I know now. I pray to God that he guides me. I pray that I can find a Church that I feel so at peace in that I can't wait to attend Church. So what do I do? How did you do it?

Hi, I'm glad you are asking questions and looking for a home church. The main thing I consider when choosing a church is if they are a bible based fellowship. For someone to simply say 'this is right' and 'that is wrong' is unacceptable to me. Despite the fact that I have been studying the bible since I was a young girl and DO know what it has to say, that is what I look for in a pastor and will accept nothing less. I would hope that the pastor you mentioned did use bible reference when answering your questions or explaining things to you. If he didn't and does not preach with a bible in hand- and use referenences in his sermons- in my view that is not 'church' but a lecture. Now, if what you believe does not match up with what the bible has to say- that would be a different story and I would challenge you to read the bible for yourself and discover what God has to say. One of the best ways to find a home church is to visit a few and go to more than just the Sunday services so that you can get a better idea of what they are about. If you find one you like, I suggest you attend a new believers class and/or adult Sunday school. God bless! |

Good question. I grew up Catholic, and went to catholic school. I go to a Baptist church now. I really think and believe we go to the place that feeds our soul, a place we are comfortable in. I have been to nearly every denomination and just feel comfortable where I am now. Try out a few churches. I think when it's the right one for you, you won't have to guess if you're at the right place.
