| Poverty of Spirit
I'm still comprehending the true essence of what it means to be poor in spirit. However, at a point in my life in the past few months I have truly known how it felt to be completely crushed. All I have to offer God is my heart and to God that is everything. I truly got a blessing from God when I came to him with a humble heart and recognized my own impoverished condition without him. Until my self-will was defeated, I was left in chains of bondage. As long as I fought in my own strength, I was left stranded. Until I threw my hands in the air and said, "God, help me. I can't do this on my own. I need YOUR power", I fought endlessly in a painful struggle that seemed never-ending. Surrender to God's will and plan for my life was the solution. As long as I was trying to do things my way, I kept digging a bigger hole for myself and missed out on a true spiritual connection. I recognized that I had nothing to offer God and God has given me everything. My self had to be done away with. I went to God with a starving heart and he has filled me with the Bread of life. When I came to God poor in spirit, broken, and helpless he did not turn away from me. He picked me up, dusted me off and saved me from the bondage that had enslaved me. When I gave up myself for God, He gave me everything I needed and everything better than I could ever want or ask for. |
