| Question about dreams.
Do we need to ask forgiveness for sinful dreams? I keep having dreams of my old lifestyle. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Not exactly the picture of a good christian. If we can't control what we dream about do we need to repent for them?

We can control them to a degree and we can make amends toward self when we have them. Don't go feeling guilty if you get them as they do happen but when they do happen...take the solutions so they don't happen as often. Bad dreams...solutions... Prayer Reading the bible Filling my thoughts with things of God. Once things are in my mind, I can't erase them but I can push them to the side and ask God to help me keep them to the side. By filling my mind with scripture...there becomes less room for other things to come forward in my thoughts. Reading the bible and prayer are my amends to self when such happens to me.

Wow..if i was condemned for that... Lately I have had a lot of those too. Most deal with past relationships..and I would not think of participating in my waking hours! I pray for God to give me dreams and speak to me in them. So I believe it is a way of working through some unresolved issues...with abandonment. Love, IO

(((((LAurie)))) Dreams help us work stuff out. They use symbols to express the sub conscious to get our attention. I used to have a reoccurring nightmare it got to where I was afraid to go to sleep. I knew I could not go on without sleep so I finally asked myself what was this dream trying to tell me???? I decided to not take the dream literally and look for the message in it. In looking at the symbols I realized my s/c was telling me a very funny joke it showed me I was taking a certain thing way to seriously and I laughed and laughed at how my s/c dressed up this in a nightmare to get my attention. You know the Lord meets us where we are and walks with us always always. He came so that we might enjoy our lives. I don't think being a Christian is about being on a guilt trip. If you commit a sin confess it and stop doing it... We do become a new creature we change in our own ways. For some the change is very dramatic and for others it is more subtle...even in the Lord we remain individuals. Welcome to the Body of Christ!! But remember you are still human. I think one of the most fundamental things about loving the Lord is accepting the forgiveness with a joyful heart....

In all things we can pray and ask for specific answers. When I find myself having bad dreams, especially if they are intense and/or happen often; I will pray for God to redeem my sleep and to protect me as I sleep. In this past couple of months, I have had alot of stress and I also had many bad dreams. When I learned that my husband and daughter were also having them, we all took some time to pray together about it. If my dreams come from current actions or state of mind, I can do things differently. For instance, I can avoid watching television shows that may trigger these dreams and instead I can fill my mind, spirit and heart with the word of God, Christian music and wholesome thoughts. I keep this verse printed next to my computer: "Brothers and sisters, think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected." Philippians 4:6 The word of God is powerful and alive and the more I read it the better. I can't fight my battles if I don't have that ammunition and don't know how to use it. Please do not misunderstand me, I'm not saying that all or any bad dreams come from things I am doing wrong. Although I'm sure that happens, I know that sometimes a bad dream is just a bad thought that happens without my permission as I sleep. |

I'm so glad you mentioned dreams!! Just recently I've dreamt a couple of things that have happened either the next day, (job offer) or a few weeks later, (a new pet). I knew the dogs name before I was told what she was called. I am totally serious, maybe it's from working the steps??...... tho I had dreams like that before I used drugs and alcohol. |

Thanks for all the replies. I wasn't sure what to do, so that is exactly what I told God. I'm sorry if my dreams offended you in any way, please forgive my sub-conscious. It's funny that you mentioned listening to Christian music before bed, last night I had my son helping me to find a christian radio station around here, but I couldn't get any of them to come in on my clock radio. I'll try again. Thanks
