| Savior and Lord
My counselor asked me the other day if I remembered when I made Jesus my Savior? I said I did and told her about it. Then she asked me if I remembered when I made Him my Lord? That caught me off guard. But the more I thought about it the more I realized she was right. There is a difference between Jesus just being our Savior and Him being Lord of our lives. I've been saved for a long, long time, but other things/people have sat on the throne of my heart. I've had family, friends, myself, worries, fears, etc...all on the throne of my heart. That is why I lose my peace and joy so easily. And now, when I am going through such a struggle, I want to put Jesus back on the throne and say, "Why are you doing this to me? Help me! Make it better." I was thinking about Job and why God chose Job to be tested and tried. God himself said Job was a righteous man so why make him go through all he went through. I think I found my answer in Job 42:5. Job said, "My ears had heard of you before," You see, Job knew God. Knew who he was and loved God and worshipped God. But God wanted something more. Vs. 5 finishes by Job saying, "But now my eyes have seen you." It wasn't until Job went through the suffering and loss that he was able to fully know and understand and become intimate with God. God wants intmacy with all of us, but to get it He has to be on the throne of our hearts. He has to not only be our Savior, whom we have "heard of" but we have to get to the place where we can say, "now I have seen you." If I go through all this that I'm going through and don't gain intimacy with God...what was it for? |
