Question Glad to find you!

Hello,

I am a fellow sister who has been struggling in alcoholism for a long time. I attended AA and saw a Christian coulnselor last year and managed to stay sober for three months. I guess I reconvinced myself that I could handle drinking and keep it moderate. We all know the end of that story! I have gone to that dark and hellish place again where I have no joy and feel separated from God because alcohol has taken his place. I havent had a drink yet today, Thank God. And thank God I found this site b/c I have been praying for a Christian support group, I haven't been to a meeting in a long time and need to. I am just scared of facing everyone again. I have tried many times to do this on my own and fail quickly every time. I would love any prayers and any kind of support. Thank you

Hi Lisa

Welcome Lisa,
You are in the right place! You CAN do this. I have found a lot of self-talk helps and cursing the demon that haunts me helps. I walk around the house talking to myself out loud & the same while driving or outside, etc. You will find much support without judgement here. My prayers are with you....like a friend tells me, "stay positive and stay strong." Julie

Much prayers to you lisap!!! I know that through Christ, you can do this. We all can. Remember that when you are tempted, talk to God. Pray your way through it. Ask God to get you through the temptation. To remove it in His name --- He will. EVERY TIME.

hanging in

Thank you for supporting me. I know it is so important to pray through it. I have been mad at god for a long time. And in a guilt cycle. I have two little boys and I don't want to take my frustrations out on them. I feel like I am headed in the right direction. Thank you Lord

Welcome Lisa

Looks like you are starting out on the right path.
People at meetings are the same as me and you. They are there for the same reason you or I would go. No need to fear going through the door.
AA, Celibrate recovery, Alcoholic Victorious, small group bible studies... no matter the meeting you will be accepted as you will find out.

Step one, two, and three...
I have a problem. (alcohol and I don't get along well)
I can't control the problem. (I tried it my way and that didn't work)
Lord, please help me. (I can do ALL things through Christ that strengthens me)

I made it through as have many others...You will make it through as well.

Welcome Lisa,

I am so grateful for this forum, it has become a part of my recovery. I still attend meetings though. Tonight I went to two meetings, the first was a meeting in the prison down the road. We picked a topic from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, page 58, chapter 5, How it Works. We picked one sentence to discuss, share this with me: "Some of us had tried to hold on to our old ideas and the result was nil tell we let go absolutely." When I first came in the program I tried to bring all sorts of stuff (ideas) from my past with me. When the going got ruff, I always seemed to fall back on things and people from my past that I was familiar with. Which led me back into the vicious cycle of drunk-sober-drunk-sober-drunk-sober-drunk.

Please don't let your pride keep you from going to a meeting........please stay in touch........we are praying for you........toad

day two

Today is day two, and although I do have slight anxiety, I am SSSSSOOOOOOOOO relieved to wake up sober, free from shame guilt, and nausea. I will do my best do get to a meeting today, it is a challenge with two little boys to find a sitter, but I need to make it work. Does anyone have any info on celebrate recovery? I have heard of it and will try and do a search for Colorado. It is so nice to be able to jump on the computer to be encouraged and uplifted. Pray that I can be open and find a good sponsor. I really want to stay sober for Jesus, for my self, and for my family. THANK YOU!!!!!

Lisa,
How old are your boys? I have 2 little ones myself - ages 19 mos & 3 yrs. Every time that I think about having a drink ( I have been sober for almost 5 years ), I look at them. They are blessings from God & I will not do anything to harm them. I want to give them a better life than I had. My dad is an alcoholic & my husband's dad was an alcoholic & we were both alcoholics and drug addicts & have vowed to give our children Jesus instead.

Thanks!

Toad- and friends-

Thanks so much for the info, that is not far from my house. I tried going to the celebrate recovery site and couldn't find anything in Colorado. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. My boys are two and four years old. I started drinking heavily during the day after my second was born. I come from heavy alcoholism as well. Hopefully we can break that pattern. I did think about a drink today, and have been. Jesus help me surrender this to you! My husband is traveling tonight and that is usually when I let the beast rip. I do have a temporary sponsor and will call her. Thank god for this site!!!!

Feel free to come by as often as you need to. It helps to know that others are here and understand. Thinking about a drink, but you didn't have it- that's great! The prayers are still coming your way.
I hope to hear from you soon.

once again, Thanks

You guys got me through the afternoon without a drink. Tomorrow I will wake up to my third day sober. I was so close to having a beer, doing the same game I always play with myself, thinking I can handle it. The truth is, I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired and living without joy (when drinking). I went to serve at our youth group tonight and didn't have much to give, but it kept me from drinking. I have been in denial for a long time and realized today that my kids need me to be a PRESENT, loving and Christlike mom. I have lots of work to do , and am rambling, sorry, I'm just so thankful I didnt drink. I kept on praying even though it didn't take my anxiety away. Thank you Jesus I didn't have a drink, and keep me sober tomorrow so that I can be open to you.

Talking day 4, almost 5!!

today was day 4, and almost had some wine (my mom was here drinking it). I was surprised how fast I could talk myself out of it. It did take work and prayer but i did it . We went to a holiday party and I drank lots of coffee!!!!!!! I feel like the mornings are easy and the afternoons are the tough times. Thank you Lord for another sober day............

prayers

Thanks for all your prayers, i know that is what is sustaining me. Man, am I glad I didn't drink last night. Today is another new day without a hangover, shame, headache, and guilt. This time I am really trying to focus on the whole "one day at a time". I get into a mess when I start thinking about never having a drink again. Thus, one day at a time seems a little more managable. We will be leaving tomorrow for two weeks of vacation so please pray. There will be lots of drinking around. but a verse just popped into my head!!!!!!! I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Thankfully I will be able to long on to this godsend site while I am away. Have a good day! lisap

so true!!!!!

That is so true! I feel like I have isolated myself from god so I am not in the routine of believing he can deliver me. My disease has isolated me from god. HE has been there all along, but I have chosen not to be open to him. Alcohol has taken his place for a long time. Thank god he makes all things new. Today I choose to believe that. Even it I don't feel it. I like that, Log on to prayer. One more prayer request, will you pray I find a Christian sponsor. The person that god wants for me. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Ask for anything in my name and it will be given.

Your sponsor is on the way.
Prayers that we have open eyes and ears so that we know who the people are that God wants us to connect with in life.
I need find an accountability partner. Easy enough to do till they said it needs be someone of the same sex.
The Lord will bring us both the right person. Prayers that we are open and notice said person when they cross our path.
