Possessiveness

Whenever I have a spiritual revival, recovery people get possessive and church people get possessive.
I am choosing to spread myself too thin for their liking.
I have to rest, self-care, and attend support events for my multiple conditions and small disabilities. Oh and sometimes work too (for economic reasons don't you know)
I no longer drive a car so where it takes everyone minutes to get to, takes me hours, perhaps missing a meal as the directions and logistics can clash in practical terms.

I know what I'm going to say in recovery circles but what should I say to church people?
I would like churches to be more diverse.
The majority of people at churches probably don't believe God does things for people that aren't like them because they think such people don't exist.
My disability in expression is disrupting my relationships in this important spiritual sphere.

This has been a battle that has gone on for ages.
Charles Wesley spoke of it back in his day. he went out to the common folk and preached his sermons in the streets as well.
From what they are teaching in my courses... the schools are looking to do the same...Make churches more diverse. Our church looks like it could be a UN meeting because of the diversity we have. In time, many will see the light of doing things right.
Hold strong and know that just your being there will help open the eyes of others.

Well, I understand exactly what you are talking about here as my husband has medical issues that often keep us from attending church. His energy levels are very high and he appears to be just like the average person...but if he does not balance his activity levels... can end up hospitalized and with more and perhaps permanent disabilty. For us to attend on a regular basis is just not possible and many do not or will not try to comprehend this. I don't blame them- but try to educate them about how we must live our life. If after I have done this... I am still expected to do what I obviously cannot..then I have two choices:1-ignore them and stay 2- find a new church
Finding a good church for you make take some time... but it's worth it to keep looking. Another way to go would be to try to communicate how you feel with the pastor and/or church leadership- I hope you will find what you need.
Thanks for stopping by here- it's great to have another friend!

Thank you Best & CMC, the road lies through a smidgeon more assertiveness on my part I see. Also openness to more work by God.
My standing back the last so many years has at least given me time to ponder the arguments - now to step forward and have them!
I don't have a big choice of churches but I have a choice of contributions to make there!
