I use my Life Recovery Bible all the time. I got mine at an alcoholics victorious meeting. It has been a real help getting me into reading the bible. Do you have any Christian book stores near you? You might want to look there.

| Celebrate Recovery and Life Recovery Bible
I am a part of Celebrate Recovery at our church. Actually, I'm on the worship team as well as participating in the programme. I love the Life Recovery Bible and have used it regularly as a devotional for the men in my rooming house. My ministry, besides worship and intercession, is running this accomodation for exoffenders and men in recovery. Every Saturday night, we have a community meal. Between the entre and dessert, I serve out a helping of the 12 Steps and relevant scripture. It often promotes discussion and equips the guys and myself with useful tools. Trouble is, I find I keep giving my Life Recovery Bible away.....Often when a guy is moving on, I give him my Bible. God has blessed me tremendously in the men He has brought into my home.

Hello all, I am new here as of today but was so happy to find this forum. I won't bore you with boring details, but I would like to state the following: I am the lead facilitator of the Celebrate Recovery program at our church and am quite pleased to see it referenced here so much. The Life Recovery Bible is actually part of the official curriculum at Celebrate Recovery. As most of you who have it have already stated, it is an excellent resource. I keep mine with me 98% of the time. FYI, the Life Recovery Bible is NLT not NIV. Just to clarify if anyone is having trouble locating it at their local bookstore. Also, rather than write Rick Warren at Saddleback, you should direct your inquiries directly to John Baker (the founder of CR) at johnb@saddleback.net . He may in turn forward your email to someone who is better suited to reply. For those of you who are curious, Saddleback Church is absolutely beautiful, and Rick Warren is a super nice, very comical, God loving person. Last edited by Gr8fulAddict; 02-10-2005 at 03:23 PM. The Life Recovery Bible is and excellent tool for recovery which means living life on God's terms. It helped me to realize that the rooms do have a place in God's plan. I've also realized that I can do both and that without them I am nothing. I need God first and foremost, and I need instructions (steps) on how to live the way he wants me to live. Unfortunately I've lost my Life Recovery Bible and I live in a country where they don't sell them. Need help!!!!

| Recovery Bible
I would just like to encourage anyone who has not found the "Life Recovery Bible" in thier hands yet, to obtain a copy. God's word has so much to say about our condition and recovery. While I use a more traditional Bible translation for my personal study, I conclude each day with a reading from this specially "tailored" text. What a gift.

I know exactly what you mean Morning Glory and here is what I found to bethe most helpful. I am a sinner...I have sinned. I do not deserve God's glory or His honor. when i reflect on y own life I see just how undeserving i am. However it is there for me , and He gives freely and generously. He gives from his own heart full of Love for all his children. It is me that struggl with me..It is I and I alone that keeps me from the Sunlight of the Spirit. Forgiveness is a gift I give to myself...I had to toally, without hesitation, without prejudice or doubt, forgive myself. That was a tough one, sometimes I still question and ponder....But I have also found I answer to God....Not others...God is my judge...So in my reflections I look at my behaviors and actions so I can be right with God.. The plan in the BB of the 24 hours we are given has taken on a new and deeper meaning for me. Each and every day is a gift from my loving Father...So it is up to me to care for that gift and do honor to Him by how I plan my day and keep in close contact with Him throughout the day..."We pause when agaitated or doubtful..." We can forgive ourselves becasue He already has. The Power so much Greater than myself has forgiven me so who am I to say I am not worthy and must prove myself worthy. Humility was another tool that helped me tremendously...It was when I began to combine the tools and principles that I finally began to grow Spiritually. One day at a time..When used sinularly my growth and worthiness to God seemed stunted soemhow...

MG You hit the nail on the perverbial head with where I am today with the scripture you put in here. I love that section of the Bible... 2CO 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. This touches my heart today.

| Peeling Back the Layers
Has anyone else felt that as we take the 4 & 5th steps that it seems to come in layers, at least thats how its been for me. I took a long time to do my 4th step, looking at all the things i had done to the people in my life and to myself, all the things that i allowed others to do to me... How for so long , I beleived God just didnt get me, when in fact it was me that didnt get God and his beautiful mercy and Grace. As i go longer into my recovery, i find my self doing step 8 all the time or at least frequently, and then i discoverd its because i really didnt deal with it, i may have glazed over it in steps 4 & 5. I have spoken to my therapist about this and she tells me its because, as i progress God is peeling back the layers of all my pain and hurt one at a time so i can deal with them peacefully, so they are not so big and painful. It is her belief that thats how God helps us heal, he allows for Denial of those things that hurt us and wounded and maybe broke us, to come back to us in memory and spirt, so that we can then look at those scars and heel and know that even in the darkest of my nights ( our nights) he was watching and caring for us , .

My experience indicates that many are called but only a few are chosen. Just for Today--------------------------I am Sober Pernell does this mean that I may be called to God but he will not chose me because I do struggle with my past and I have repented time and time again. Should I give up since I still feel unforgiven? I have even tried to think of a sin I have left out and thought maybe that is why I still feel burdened. I thought maybe I just hadn't been consistant enough with my faith. I wonder off the road and fall right back in the ditch I wanted out of in the first place. I am not trying to be smart by any means. I fight the will of God because it is uncomfortable for me but so is my life. I have finally realized that my alcoholism is a symptom of the devil in my life. It is my fault he is here because I have invited him here. Today I pray that God evicts him from my body, mind, and life. I flee from the devil. I am searching for God. Any advice? Alot to chew on???? |

Can someone please explain to me how this Bible is able to say that Jesus died on the Cross for our sins AND our guilt? I have never in my life heard a sermon or reference that says he died for our guilt. Is this a way for alcholics and drug addicts to not have to own up to their actions and the guilt that arises from it? Does this help ease the guilt that these people feel for what they've done to those around them? Jesus died on the cross for my sins, my guilt is my own. How can someone bend the Bible to fit their need and the message that they want to get across? Are we each to make our own interpretations of the Bible? I am not trying to be controversial, I have been in a relationship with an alcholic/drug addict for many years. He uses this Bible on a regular basis however, I was floored last night when he read this part. I would honestly like someone to be able to explain this to me.

Welcome schilders. In regards to using God's word to gain some personal advantage, I've observed alot of people who do that. What I learned in Al-Anon and by seeing a Christian counselor is that only _I_ can decide when someone else's behavior is acceptable to me or not. Forgiveness has nothing to with that- it's about my choices for the future. God forgives my loved one who is an addict but that does not take away the actions or the hurt. God forgives me as well, for my part in what happened in that relationship. It's up to me to have boundaries about others' actions and it's also my responsibility to forgive _anyone_ who harms me. If I continue to place myself in harm's way, I am the one who needs to make some changes. Although those are recovery principles, I follow them primarily as a Christian because the bible says I need to. If what you are saying is that I am forgiven but still guilty, I would have to respectfully disagree because the work of the Cross is complete and have found no scripture to support that view. I'm glad you decided to post here in CIR; but the thread you chose to post on is an older one. You will get more replies if you start your own thread either here, or perhaps in our Friends & Family section. |
