SoberRecovery's chat room has been open for 7 years. SoberRecovery's chat room was empty for most of those years until one member made a commitment to greet every newcomer who came into the chat room. That member's commitment made the chat room what it is today, a lively place where newcomers can usually find someone in the chat room to assist them. We had this chat forum open and I finally had to close the forum because we couldn't find any volunteers to host chat meetings. A few volunteered, but their commitment was short due to issues in their own lives. We didn't have chat meetings. One person reached 6 months of recovery and volunteered to host 4 chat meetings a week. We were able to open the chat forum again and post a chat meeting schedule. Since then a few more have volunteered and all their service work is appreciated. The efforts of one person changed SoberRecovery and made chat another place for members to find support 24 hours per day. If members don't like the style of the meetings offered they do not need to attend. I can't understand why members continue to go to a meeting they don't like and then direct complaints to SoberRecovery. I've read many, many chat transcripts over the past couple of months and I can't begin to understand the cruelty I've seen. Then these same members who are so cruel who attend a meeting they don't like complain that there are no meetings hosted by those with solid recovery? I'm sorry, but I can't take those complaints seriously. The complaints are directed at SoberRecovery. Guess what. YOU are SoberRecovery. If YOU want more AA/NA meetings then YOU will need to VOLUNTEER to host those meetings. YOU will have to begin posting on the forums and establish your membership here. YOU will have to reach 6 months of recovery. YOU will have to put in the time that the other members did and VOLUNTEER. YOU will need to have good standing on the forums. I would like to publicly offer my sincere appreciation to our chat chairs and my sincere appreciation to Paulos for his daily dedication to the chat room that made it what it is today. The chat room was empty until Paulos offered his service to SoberRecovery. I say all of this with a very heavy heart from everything I've seen here recently. There are many members in chat who follow the forum rules. I am sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you and want you to know we are working on solutions so chat is a safe place for all.
