Easy but unusual food combos

I have often heard of many types of dishes that are made in unconventional ways- or are comprised of unusual ingredients- maybe something that most would not want to try out. Do you have any you would like to share? I have two to start this off.... I hope all of you good cooks will help with this!
Today I tried something new and thought I was really brave to actually eat it!
It was great!
cmc's experimental lunch!
mix in a bowl: diced canteloupe and tomato
pour: tangy balsamic dressing
sprinkle: grated cheese.
( I used a mixture of cheddar and something else that was white!!! maybe it was monterey jack!)

I use this sauce with premade frozen meatballs:the 'recipe' is on the bag!
equal parts of grape jam and chili sauce
that is it! you can vary the ratio to taste and sometimes I add diced onion.
I sounds awful but everyone loves it- feed them first and then 'tell' how you made it!

Cece,
Have you ever tried it with chicken or other meats? I was thinking that using Apricot preserves would be yummy on chicken!!!!!
I- who may often go without actually cooking anything (bless Mr cmc's heart!) am in the mood to get out the pots and pans!

I imagine the apricot would give it a more sweet and sour taste.
I am the queen of creative chicken dishes....but I can't for the life of me think of any now!
I just realized that the recipe I used for the meatballs was cranberry sauce and chilli sauce. Now I have to try the grape method.
Once again...I'm sitting here starving at work.
STOP COOKING CMC!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes...strange recipes

put 1 lb ground beef in bowl
Mix 3/4 C finely chopped onion
1 bag instant rice
1 1/2 tbps. brown sugar
salt pepper to taste
1 tbsp garlic powder
1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of ketchup depending on how moist meatloaf is
1 egg

Make meatballs out of this

take one can of tomato soup and mix it with one can of water, add 2 tbsp worchestershire sauce pour into a 9 x13 dish and put meatballs in it

Cover and cook for 45 minutes

REALLY REALLY GOOD

All the following recipies came into existence from too much pot and not enough money for real food.

Take one peice of bread spread mayonaise on it put slice of cheese on it, add a handful of ruffles original potato chips, drizzle ketchup over the chips and top with another slice of bread. press sandwich on a pannini grill. and dip in tomato soup....

another weird sandwhich woul be grape jelly and cheddar cheese.

also mac and cheese with blue cheese dressing and bacon bits....

One time I had the crazy idea that orange tang would taste good in milk since I like strawberry and bannana milk.........orange tang tastes HORRIBLE in milk, just FYI.

My grandma used to make cinnamon chicken--she'd fry skinless chicken breasts in a pan, and sprinkle cinnamon sugar over them several times while they cooked. It created a yummy, gooey, sweet-spicy sauce with the chicken. Mmmmmmm.....haven't had it in years!

that one sounds too good to be true!! We are going make that here next week for sure! Is that the same recipe that Halfpint made for Almonzo on Little House?!!!!!!
Does anyone here make Lemon Chicken? You know.... what Debra made for Ray on Everybody Loves Raymond!

This could turn in to a sitcom recipe thread!!! Aunt Bea was a good cook too!

Favourite combinations!

I love white bread toasted, with Hellmanns! What i do is shred cooked chicken, add crushed black pepper, and a teaspoon of curry paste! It's gloopy. but to me its comfort food at it's best! You have to mix it altogeter first though!

Another unusual sauce for meatballs or pork chops. 1 can saurkraut drained and rinsed, a can of jellied cranberry sauce and add your favorite barbecue sauce to taste. Cook the chops or meatballs in a crockpot in this! It's really good.

did anyone here ever hear of butter and sugar sandwiches?
It sounds absolutely awful, but these were a common item during the Depression LOL the one the country had! NOT MINE!!!!!
We used to make these for a snack because our grandparents told us it was a nutritiouos snack they ate when they were little! lol lol lol
on mushy white bread it was almost like eating cookie dough.
My mom made me grape jelly and butter sandwiches- I never heard of a pbj until I went to school and traded lunches!

I used to like sweet pickle, thinly slice onion and ketchup sammich lol Haven't had one in years and years.

Lil' Smokies in BBQ Sauce: 2 packages of Little Smokies sausages, 1 can smooth cranberry sauce, 1 large bottle of your favorite bbq sauce. Dump it all in a crock pot and let it get hot. Great at poker night for the gang. hehe

Ummmm Comfort food. Campbells Tomato with saltines. So many saltines that it's thick like mashed potatoes. A grilled kraft American cheese sammich on the side! Now that's comfort!

This one can be baked but I use the microwave for it, sizes and amounts do not matter- just don't let the eggs overlap too much. For a 9 inch pie plate I would use about 5 or 6 eggs. Any other dish is good as long as it is not more than 3 inches deep.

lightly grease a baking dish- and drop in eggs one at a time
drop spoonfuls of salsa all around the eggs
add cilantro if desired
top with grated cheese
this might be good with some chopped black olives, too

cook until eggs are set
note- for the micro wave method make sure you pierce each yolk with a pin or knife tip

Oh...I remembered a tomato soup one!
Can of Tom soup
1/3 the recommended amount of milk
1 cup of grated chedder.
Pour over toast (my kids used to love it)

And an odd one:
Kielbasa sliced about 1/2 -3/4 " thick
Brown lightly in skillet then simmer until tender
Add apple butter and brown mustard
Its odd, but SO good

ms. karma.
I like how you said you would prove this for yourself!! I guess alot of us will be eating the same stuff!!!!! My daughter wouldn't touch our cantaloupe salad! Mr. cmc loves it though- we may add some thinly sliced cucumber next time.

heres one more
Easy BBQ sauce that I have tasted but never made myself. Half each of ketchup and regular non-diet Coca Cola ( w/ lime sounds good)

Okay, I don't know if these are weird, but here it goes......

White rice with tomato sauce and grated cheese (peccorino romano, or anything in that area of the supermarket. lol!). You can also throw in the veggies and meats of your choice.

White rice with balsamic vinegar. Just a little bit to taste. I don't know why, but I love this!!! Also, marinating chicken in balsamic vinegar and then grilling it. Pretty much anything with balsamic vinegar on it! LOL!

Not too interesting, but I'm sure I'll think of some more!

A couple other good late-night sandwiches that my dad taught me:

Peanut butter and brown sugar.
Peanut butter and miracle whip.

I have had the bbq'ed meatball using grape jam and chilli sauce. Very good.
Also, the apricot jam and garlic combo is really good on chicken or pork loin.
