OMG, yesterday my brand new computer not even a two months old CRASHES! Of course I am on the phone, calling dell right away. Saying WTF, this is a $1,000.00 computer and now it crashes. Oh well we are sorry for that. I said well so am I, I need this computer up TODAY! Well after being on the phone with them anywhere from 4-5 hours. And during this process they want ME to open up the PC (BTW I just learned a few days ago that means Personal Computer)! I said OK I will open it, but I am telling you right now I am NOT A COMPUTER PERSON!

She directs me into the door, of course I had to ask, "How do you open it?" After her instruction she said to look for what I can see as a battery watch! So here I am looking and say, "Um I don't see one." She goes well do you know what one looks like? I mean OMG, hell I have owned quite a few Timex watches. Then I seen it, the battery, she said pop it out. OH SURE like I even know how to do that. But yet it wasn't that hard. So this happens twice with her. NO mind you before that I was on the phone with someone else for about 1 1/2 hours. So anyway, then she says take out the memory boards. OK what are them. They look like two thin pieces of plastic that are long. Oh yeah, Green

.....So I pull them out and we run several test on them. After all of this I don't know how long that took but quite awhile. She then comes to the conclusion that I need a new mother board. OH yeah I do know what that is.....So when am I going to have my computer running, WEDNESDAY are you nuts.....

I went to a NA Meeting, and this person was there so I told them what happen. She came over after the meeting thinking well we just need to download Windows XP SP2 CD on the computer and you will be ready to go. Great I thought, so after the meeting she comes over to play around with the computer

I told her the F11 thinggiee didn't work or I would have done that. So she tries and it freezes again. Great! Just Great! So I call my sponsor he has a Windows XP SP2 disks, so I hurry up and go get it. She comes over and wipes out everything in my computer to install this. So now here I am getting excited because I am going to be on line soon...

So here I am at midnight, it is almost done, I plug everything in and guess what NO INTERNET>>>>I tried to get it hooked up and then she had the nerve to tell me that now I need the hard drive to operate the Windows XP SP2 edition. I said WTF I already have them. OH NO, You have to reinstall them.. OK fine. NO ******* computer tonight, now I am jonsing bad for the Internet here, I start to call people to see if they have an extra PC..NO! OK here it is almost 1 in the morning. I decide to go to bed.

I get up, first thing all pissed off because I can not get on my computer, no SR, no "other" site, no posting my readings. **** OK I will call this other guy. So he answers and says bring my PC by about 10:00-10:30. Of course I can do that. So I drop of my laundry at the laundry mat and take over my PC, he says of yeah I need your keyboard and mouse, so I go home and get it. I go back and put the wash in the dryer and go to his office. He got on the Internet and within 1 hour he had everything downloads as far as the drivers, and installed. He says you only owe me $26.75....WOW AM I BLESSED. So I guess that now I am a computer junkie....Well better that junkie than the other. Just had to share that obsessive, compulsive behaviour that I still have.

Funny that you say that LeAnne, when I was on the phone with the last one for way over 2 hours. I said does this now make me a computer technician. She said that I was getting close. The way you are doing it is the best way to learn. Just dive right in head first.

Ahhhh, the wonderful world of PC's....and the PC illiterate....and I am not talking about you! I am talking about the supposed "support desks" at some of these companies. Believe it or not....Dell is actually one of the better ones lmao.

We have our own little slice of the web, http://www.rasnerfamily.com with a forum setup there. I joined here to support the love of my life, and was hoping I could help in some way, maybe this is it. I will head over and setup a forum for "Technical Advice" and everyone can post away if they are having any problems with their PC...which btw...it's actually NOT an acronym for "Personal Computer", it stands for "Personal Confuser" rofl, although I can not take credit for that as I stold it from Tech TV's leo Laporte.

I know a forum for PC problems is moot if the dang thing is crashed lol, but maybe I can help with some preventive maintenance and inconsistent behavior from the little buggers.

So here I am today, my software, driver, and Windows XP SP2 edition didn't come like they said they would. I called them up and asked the poor girl Who the hell is going to pay me $200.00 for taking the day off. And who is going to pay the next time I have to take a day off and stay at home waiting for them not to show up. OMG I better get to a meeting and practice a little of the acceptance today. Well at least I found out how to download this sh!t without them. I am a computer teckie wanta be.

Next time you have trouble, PLEASE get ahold of my hubby..........he could probably help you fix it between remote desktop and the phone.........and he can do it in the evening or daytime since he runs the business out of home.....If anyone wants, pm me, ill give ya his site addy..........he has 3 lmao!!!!! plus the business phone....he can call YOU back........it wont cost ya a dime for the call!!!!!!!!!

OK now WTF is remote desk top, that sounds like letting someone into your computer, like a hacker.

I don't know about that. I once hacked into my own computer.

hehe, Remote desktop is basically allowing someone else into your PC. BUT...this is at your discretion, NOT a "hackers". And I can almost gaurantee you that "Remote Assistance" is turned on right now on your PC, which allows MicroJunk errrrr, Microsoft into your PC. For Remote Desktop, you set the user on your end and then give them a password and using your IP they can get into your PC and fix whatever is wrong....and yes they could fry everything lmao. Do you have XP pro or home, or media edition?

Um I think it is the home edition yet I thought it was suppose to be also for business. I am not sure WTF I have. today isn't a good day but I am trying to turn it around! Now not only is my counselor asking what my motives is for being on a recovery site, but now she is saying that I am probably a sex addict with no hope for recovery and will end up in prison the rest of my life

Damnit recovery just sucks sometimes.

Since I have posted the last post, so much here has happened! First off Dell has a computer technician come over and replace the mother board. Now since he did that I have been without Internet. I told him that I had a appointment at 4:30 (my AA Happy Hour Meeting) and that I had to get going. He was here from 3:30 up until about quarter till 5. After he replaced the mother board I couldn't get on-line. Something wasn't working properly so I was on the phone with Dell and my Internet provider to figure out what was going on. I HUNG UP ON DELL, they pissed me off for the last time. I called my Internet provider and we ran the test, and she said that it must be the PC. During my conversation with her, she asked if I would like to upgrade to 5mage whatever that is the speed of the internet. And I said sure, it is actually going to cost me about 20.00 dollars per month for the upgrade. That made me a little more happy.

So here we are again

I enjoyed your story. It actually made me feel grateful that I haven't had your problems with my super system power pc. I bought it in 99' from Gateway and this thing flies around the internet faster than most the new ones.

My Specs for this super system.

450 mhz processor
256 mb ram
12 gig harddrive
Windows 98

They don't make them like this anymore!

Its all about your internet connection!

lol big 450....thats true though, it is the size of the pipe that the water (or in this case the data) flows through. Dial up is like a 1/2 inch copper pipe, while DSL is one inch and most cable is 4....if that makes any sense to anyone lol.

Dave I had a 450 gateway!!!, I used that thing as a web AND email AND FTP server for about 2 years lmao. It ran awesome...the cable I had then was like a 8 inch pipe though heh.

and now my internet has a 5 thinnggiee instead of a 3 thinnggiiieeee cable that is all I know.

Now they are sending me a new hard drive thing will that have my systematic restore system on it the F11 thinnggiieee and all my software that I lost? Don't know the damn tech where I took it where I bought it didn't know. Then they wanted to charge me 35 dollars for analysis and I said well all this should be part of the warranty, since it obviously isn't working proper. They waved the analysis. so that is good
