Ok...I'm currently not feeling like the sharpest knife in the drawer... But does anyone know the regulations on "auto" insurance in PA or other states? My AS just earned his license back. He lives at my address, but my insurance company made me sign an exclusion that forfiets my insurance on my vehicle if he drives (can't say I blame them!). On the other hand, his Dad may have a car available for him to travel to and from work, but... We both want him to handle his own insurance. If its his Dads car, and he doesn't live there, and he doesn't own a car, does he need a policy of his own to drive? If so...what the heck is it called? Can't be "auto" insurance he has no auto! Anyone????!!!!!

hey cece....I'm an insurance agent, but I'm in louisiana....and insurance law varies from state to state... In louisiana, we have a set of insurance laws called "permissive use laws" that state that if you own a vehicle and have insurance on it, you can let anyone you want use it, with your permission (except for specifically excluded drivers) and they will be covered under your policy in the event of an accident...if PA is the same way, then he can use his dads car without being on the policy... On the other hand, if his dad doesn't want the liability envolved with the whole situation he could go to a notary and do whats called an "act of donation" to put the car in hias son's name and make him go get his own insurance.....the draw back here would be that he is basically giving his son the car, and there is nothing to stop him from just up and selling it... Hope this helps....but to be 100% sure, call an insurance agent in your area, they will know the exact laws of your state...

To the rescue is right! Thank you so much Blake. It seems it may be the same here given there has to be an auto to insure. I hesitated asking my insurance agent or his Dads because last time I asked a question...they raised my rates! Seems the less they know is sometimes better. But...thanks again Cece
