Well, he's touring with just a piano player (Larry Goldings. Insight, anyone?), which is close enough for me. Plus, the venue is intimate (2700 seats) so I've got hopes for a guitar autograph opportunity. 'Twould add to the collection on my Martin: Richie Havens, Leo Kottke, Kelly Joe Phelps... James Taylor?!

Here's the description from the venue website:

"Fire and Rain," "Youve Got A Friend," "Steamroller, You're Smiling Face," "Carolina In My Mind," "Never Die Young," "Shower The People," "Sweet Baby James." As a recording and touring artist, James Taylor has set a precedent for solo singer/songwriters and blazed a path to which countless numbers of earnest young musicians have since aspired. His warm baritone is among the most recognized voices in popular music and his guitar playing has established its own standard. This March 7, James Taylor fans will get a rare opportunity to see and hear the music, the voice and the songs that helped to define a generation. James Taylor's One Man Band will mark the first time since 1975 that fans will see Taylor as he was in his early years, on his own, with no band except for an accompanying pianist. An intimate evening with the songs of James Taylor. James Taylor's One Man Band.

When I was in school at Carolina, I used to go to the James Taylor Student Health Service. I think it was named after JT's father who was a doctor or something there in Chapel Hill.

It's really odd that I have such antipathy for James Taylor and yet I adore Phil Ochs because they do have some similar vocal qualities now that I think about it. Hmmm...

Love and hugs,
Eddie

Darn Floor - Big Bite
from the album "Darn Floor - Big Bite"
Words and Music by Terry Taylor, Tim Chandler, and Greg Flesch
©1987 Broken Songs (ASCAP)
1: You touch my hair and cheek sometimes
Feel in yourself this flesh and blood
My poor flesh and blood, my poor flesh and blood

I think I met an angel once
But I cannot really know for sure
Do I know you now? Do I know you now?

2: Illuminate my muddled heart
Sweep the shadows from my mind
So I might imagine what you are like
And understand the great design

Darn floor - big bite
You are earth, water and light
3: Darn floor - big bite
Can I ever hope to get it right, can't get it right

I believe I've had a vision or two
Could have been a dream
I guess it could have been a dream
Could have been a dream
I saw the wide world crack where you touched down
And bodies wash up on a mythical shore
Will you save me now? Will you save me now?
In not-quite earth, in not-quite heaven
I'll imitate love like lovers do
In not-quite art, in not-quite living
I'll pray that writing it down is part of loving you

4: Darn floor - big bite
You are twilight, dark and bright
Darn floor - big bite
You are beautiful, terrible terrible sight!
Repeat 1
Darn floor - big bite
You are love, fire and light
Repeat 3, 4
No I can't get it, no I can't get it right
Repeat 2
