Guess who is NOT going to America

...yep, guessed right - cant afford it.

Worked it out, would need 2 GRAND (3,000 dollars ish) in pounds for three weeks.

I felt sick.

O well, will start putting something aside for next year.

That's too bad, Fiver. Petroleum costs are skyrocketing too. Gasoline is due to hit $5 a gallon by next week. Ocean cruises are still fairly cheap though. (Oh, the irony!) Jet fuel is SO expensive to begin with anyways.

I'm sorry Five. I really am. Flying is outrageous. I know our tickets to England this summer were over $1000 (US) a piece.

Sucks.

Like you said, next year! Start saving those pennies or whatever you guys call them.

Five - there are ways round this as regards flights. I've managed to get a quoted price of £638 to fly to the States in June AND 3 internal flights. You have to put the effort into trying different sites and date/destination/departure combinations, though.

My mate sent me this advice, but I haven't tried it yet as I don't have my dates sorted:

"It's quite complicated, but here you go:
i) Go to http://matrix.itasoftware.com
ii) Choose "multi-leg"
ii) On the first segment complete "From" as
AMS;ARN;ATH;BRU;BUD;CAI;CPH;FRA;HEL;IST;LCA;LIN;LI S;MLA;PAR;TIP;VIE;WAW :: BA+
This is maximum number of cities allowed at once. If you cut and paste this line from the thread, be careful that rogue spaces don't mysteriously appear in the middle of the line somewhere!
For completeness, you may want to do a second search on the rest of the EU and potential EU member states:
BTS;DUB;LJU;LUX;MAD;PRG;TLL;OSL;OTP;RIX;SOF;VNO;ZA G :: BA+
Complete "to" for this segment as:
LON :: BA+ (which will search all London airports)
iii) For the next segment complete from as:
LON :: BA+
Complete "To" as:
YYY :: BA+
YYY is your destination - if you don't know the airport code, look it up.
(iv) For the next segment, complete from as:
YYY :: BA+ (which is the same city you flew into)
and then complete "To" as the same list as you used as "From" above.
iv) Enter rough dates and LON as "sales city" to get GBP prices
This will calculate the fare with a London stopover. You can just avoid the stopover and fly direct from the city on the date you want to fly.I just search for the first flight on a day in evey month of the year to see which is the cheapest originating date.
You then just call the airline concerned to book the flight.
Told you it was complicated. "

Wow - that is complicated! But no, its a def not an option and we going to france instead (semi yawn). It would just wipe us out - and we have to go for three weeks to make it worth it. Californ-i-a is what we were going to back pack round - and its just too much.

Thanks for the time it took to write this Min, and hope to see you next years. Perhaps we could all have a meet in the UK someday.

Hey Purrdy!

Thanks so much for the offer! I am spending a couple of weeks in Slip, Croatia and on my way home I will be in London for a day or so until I hop a flight home....sad-face.

I would LOVE to stay longer.

Where are you in relation to
London?

I am spending one nite on my way to Croatia and one nite on the way back. My travel agent is putting me up somewhere in the city....I don't want to stay at a hotel in the airport....

I hope to explore a little a least.....sleep isn't important....I can sleep on the long flight back to Houston!
