hmm...the snakes are NOT mine. They have rattlesnake festivals here like big cities have art festivals. It's like a fair/faire. Booths lining main street, carnival rides, turkey legs, corn dogs, cokes, beer...my niece and I even got temp tatoos...this one had a guided hunt. Gather up a group and head out of town. The guide already knows where the den is, so he leads everyone across the plain and pulls the snakes out of their hiding spot. In early spring, the most mature ones will crawl out and lay in front. I should have taken more pictures. Personally, I hate snakes. Invariably, the cat can carry in one, without incurring a bite and it's always poisonous...then you gotta figure out how to get it out of the house, without being bitten. Gotta be careful when mowing the yard...I went to the bathroom at 3 am one morning and had one coiled up in the doorway. YIKES! Then there's the scorpions. Doesn't do to walk outside barefoot. Shake the shoes before you put them on, 'cause they love sneakers. At some point in May-June, the tarantulas get frisky. They'll be hanging on the side of the house...I've seen them covering the highway. They make a nasty crunching sound when you drive over them. Love that owl. We've got a huge white one out at the farm. Scared the heck out of me the other day. A blue heron that likes to fish the koi from the stock tank. He's liable to have a price placed on his head...turkey and quail. No one's allowed to hunt the quail. I think I need to cart a cam around with me. I've just become accustomed to this stuff. I forget that other folks don't have coyotes howling at night, mountain lions strolling through, herds of buffalo, armadillos digging up the garden...they're just my neighbors... but no trees...not real ones, anyway *sigh* |

I always hear, "I thought you were taller. You're so tiny!" Even if I wear heels. Mind you, I'm 5'5". Not exactly small...but I always wished I was taller. In the summer, sometimes I get real skinny. I don't like going out with guys 6 foot, or more. I hate it when they try to hug me. I feel like I'm being smothered, or I might get broken. Especially if they lean into me...ouch! Then there's the caveman sort who insist on jerking me off my feet and tossing me over the shoulder. Much to my chagrin...against my will, and it's really pissed me off...I've been known to climb steps or jump on a chair, just to be able to look a guy in the eyes. It's really hard to tell someone that I won't go out with him because he's too tall and I feel too small. Too vulnerable, intimidated and a little threatened. So, I wind up going out with guys who are shorter of stature, smaller framed and have the "short man syndrome". That'll do wonders for one's self-esteem, too...also, NOT! LOL | |

yep, I grew up in TX. Missed playing my first softball championship 'cause I had to go to the hospital after a brown recluse. I didn't get to do anything all summer, my white blood count was so screwed up. My mother has a big scar on her leg from a bite...necrotising venom is some nasty stuff... my first encounter with a scorpion is funny now...I was 7 and stepped on one in the hall. I was holding my foot and howling...took me forever through the screams and blubbering to explain to my parents. Dad squashed it. Then he tried to look at my foot, ooh, he touched it. More fresh hell...more howls and screams. He started to giggle and started howling with me. You can bet I spot those suckers from a block away. I'd rather be bitten by a spider, more dangerous but it hurts less. LOL |

but...lemme add this...pulled out my summer clothes today and had a hard time finding a pair of shorts that would fit. The short broad got broader. Caveman would have to be a power lifter to pull that off, today. Hmm, maybe I'll stay this way. *grin* |
