For me, Photoshop works well and meets my needs. But it is one spendy cookie... not worth the price with so many out there (I got mine from a friend). Microsoft Picture It! was one I had before my hard drive fell off the wagon... I liked it nearly as well, it came with something I must not have anymore (I can't remember what - camera, maybe?). And it did most of what I wanted (resize, cut, paste, adjust color/contrast/levels) as well as I ever needed. It had a lower learning curve, too. Of course, in my opinion - the very best one used to be free. Microsoft Photo Editor. It came with the old Windows operating systems, but was no longer available after 2000 (I think). If you can get that one, it is free, quick, easy to use and did most of what I needed too. And took almost NO resources on the computer. MS replaced it with that crappy Microsoft Picture Manager - which is a joke. OK... those are my opinions... take what you like...

PC's come with MSPaint built in. That's good enough for most people. There's a ton of better ones you can get off Amazon.com. The more features, the more you pay. For 2D work Photoshop is the top of the line. If you want 3D then it gets even pricier. So work it backwards. Figure out what you need done, then find the cheapest software on Amazon that will do the job. Then hop on google and find a newsgroup that discusses that particular software so you can get the inside scoop from people who actually use it. Mike :-)

Hey Doug. Do I have gfx? What a silly question. hehehe. ![]() I'll echo the basic response DesertEyes offered. It depends on just WHAT subject matter you want to get graphic about. (pun intended). I have a rather large repertoire of programs, and I have a working knowledge of over a dozen mainstream applications. If you have any specific questions, I'll be glad to help. There are some good programs for under $100, like PhotoShop (it used to be a hundred bucks anyway). The very sophisticated 3D and Pro Studio apps are upwards of $400 and more. Price tags of $1000 aren't uncommon. Adobe Photoshop is an excellent, long-time standard for 2D photo editing and artwork. Serif PhotoPlus is a respectable "junior" European version. The core is straight from ULEAD Systems (developer of PhotoStyler & Photo Impact). Corel Corp. recently acquired PhotoShop, so it is now basically a "junior" Corel PhotoPaint, available at a much lower price. Corel Suite XI is a HOT package too!!! Expensive. $$$. Here's an excellent resource I refer to myself very often; http://www.3dlinks.com/index.cfm The strictly 2D variety can be located here; http://www.3dlinks.com/links.cfm?cat...der=linktitleA Hope this helps! |
