St Joseph

Does anyone know of this tradition?

Burying a St. Joseph statue in your
front yard, upside down, to help sell your home?
Did anyone do this? If so, what was the outcome?

I know this is a Catholic Tradition, but I have never heard of this till now, because my house is for sale...

???

Save the money used on a statue and a shovel then go out and buy yourself some new clothes.
You will look nice waiting for the house to sell.
you will feel good because you did something nice for yorself.
and you may find that since you are all dress up, you may as well treat yourself to a nice dinner as well.

Sure beats doing yard work in my book *LOL*

Ahhh, Vanity. A $6 kit to bury poor Saint Joe in your flower bed?!? That's absurd. It will hardly help sell your home. Standing on your own head probably would work better in the long run. Potential buyers will enjoy the entertainment.

Real estate agents swear by it.
I sent one to someone once...it didn't work, in a big, huge way.
Good luck selling your house Wolf.

I have heard something like this...regardless of its real effectiveness, what is the reasoning, story, and or purpose for such a thing? Why would A catholic ever do somethigng superstitious(opposed) sacriligous(opposed) use of spirtual artifacts and or things of grace for the obtaining of money like God is some Jon(opposed). Seems wierd, but have heard something about something similar so I am curious

I have also heard things about Saint Patrick and an odd custom or two... I'm looking fro clarification not widespread mis-use of information...

The dictionary defines "superstition" as...
"An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome."
One could argue that religion and religious beliefs fall under that definition.
Mojo, juju, gris gris, talismans, special charms...these things have been around forever and all they do is bolster someone's belief.
Just my humble opinion.

I have a gold angel charm bracelet that I began collecting years ago, with each angel special in its own way.

Do gold charms keep me safe and bring me peace? Not likely. But seeing them and feeling them connects my spirit to that which does, perhaps just as a reminder that God and the angels do watch over me.

Go for it, Wolfstarr, if it will help you connect with your faith that your needs will be met.

Just my thoughts.

Hugs
Ann

yesh one could argue thst religion is superstitious yet Catholics believe in grace and Jesus Christ and the veneration of holy and or sacred objects , images, etc. as well as blessings and even curses which are not superstitious to the Church. superstition and astroigy and the like are believed to be fake or the handiwork and trappings of evil an or the Devil. Christ would be seen as superstion if the Church did not have their beliefs in divne and holy things and the other evil and Heretical or sacriligous things. I was just curious anout the custom which seems unfitting as Catholic by nature.

A friend of mine was desperate to sell his home, the worst time of year, the dead of winter. It was a very large, expensive home to boot! Not only did he sell it within 2 days of listing it, the buyers paid COLD HARD CASH!

When prospective buyers come for a tour, have bread baking in the oven.

Sounds more like a superstition to me. Can't say I've ever read anything like that in the bible.

I guess the thought here is what works, works and for whatever reason some people think this is true about the statue thing.

I have heard about this before, but to me its stuff you don't want to mess with. Its like voddo stuff, real or not! I have done my share of messing around with things I shouldn't have because I didn't respect the consequences of things I don't know. I wasn't being evil I don't think, just follish and curious usually (still doesn't often matter what your intentions are when it comes to cause and affect).

To manipulate other lives for your advantage without their own understanding of what is occuring with anything I see as wrong. Thats why I was wondering more about it. It doesn't really fit with love thy neighbor, more like what you can't see won't hurt you. True or not about the stautue thing.

Maybe you could be the test subject.
Let us know if it works...

In fact I thought it was a buyers market now?
No?
