Okay then. It seems the suits of corporate America have decided that they can now monitor the health habits of their employees. And if you smoke, or are overweight, you could be facing higher health premiums. Or worse. This is a gross invasion of privacy, in my opinion. I'm all for employers offering health incentive programs and all that. But this is just too freakin' much. Read the article and see what you think. Click here to read the article |

That seems unconstitutional. There are many people who have differing health issues that are very difficult to control and some who have health issues that can't be controled. If they are going to charge more for some, shouldn't they give others a refund? Look in any big city and you will see that the biggest buildings are the insurance companies. This is just another way for them to get richer.

Good point Best. What about diabetics? Are their habits going to be monitored, and if they are not managing their diabetes properly (regular insulin, good diet, etc.) are they to pay more as well? I'm hoping that the ACLU jumps all over this BS. |

that's ridiculous. people who have never smoked a cigarette get lung cancer. skinny people can have high cholesterol. overweight people can have healthy hearts. there are so many factors involved in someone getting sick, they shouldn't have the right to charge higher premiums because someone MIGHT fall ill. i am all for terminating someone if they're not productive but i've seen plenty of larger people work their ass off and thinner people holding walls up all day. great-now i'm irritated and have to pray for friggin' corporate america. ladybug little |

Aren't insurance premiums based on risk profiles devised by actuaries? So if you choose to smoke, for example, you are choosing to take the risk. Why should the insurance company take that risk instead? I choose to "self-insure" on my cellphone, for example. If I break or lose it, then it's up to me to replace it. I do this because I think the premiums are too high, and so far it has worked out in my favour. £50 spent on a replacement screen v 7 years of £5 per months insurance payment. And I know that in the UK that our car premiums do go down the longer we are accident-free. |
