Question How much is gas where you are, and how is it affecting you?

Today it's $4.19 at the cheap station. Thankfully I don't drive so it's cost isn't killing me. How you commuters are affording this is beyond me. I work at a large home improvement chain and the prices for lumber goods and anything made of metal are skyrocketing weekly! I know, part of my job is changing the price tags.

$4.16.

I drive 10 miles to work, and 10 miles back, thankfully. These prices are ticking me off! There is no public transportation to the area where I work, otherwise, I'd be using it!

I've started a savings account for the oil this winter. Gonna be at least 3000.00 for the whole winter I suppose.

I'm in Canada, and we are paying $1.28 per litre - I would have to do the math, but we are harder hit than you folks in the U.S. right now.
I drive 30 miles each way to work Monday-Friday. I drive a fairly fuel-efficient car (98 Civic) but it's still hitting hard. Economists say we will be paying $1.50 per litre by the summer. Marina gas cost is through the roof which is bad news for avid boaters here.

$4 a gallon here and rising every day. In Jan. I traded in my small truck for a Scion XD, gets 32mpg in the city. I also have a motorcycle I ride when I don't have custody time with my kids.

My commute is pretty short, less than 5 miles, but I put a lot of miles on my vehicle traveling to AA meetings, taking my kids to school, and visiting my GF.

The prices are really aggravating, it sickens me to think of how rich the oil companies are getting from this. I wish there was some way the government could regulate the prices.

So what does an ordinary citizen do to protest and make a change?

I don't know and I don't want to. I'm hoping if I ignor it it will go away.

I do remember that when prices went way up in the 70s they went back down...not as low as before, but not near as high as they went.

AUS $1.60 a litre (Outrageous) costing up to AUS$90.00 just to fill thetank a week. My sons find it difficult as they dont earn as much so they are sharing with their mates to go out. What annoys me is that one day it can go down 14cents a litre and within 3 days it can go up again just as easy.
The governments are the ones making the money out of this not the people who own the gas stations.

we have seen spikes to 1.40/liter, i heard 2.00 by august. The buses are packed here and i sometimes ride my bike............but only because i have too

The price of everything is going up due to shipping costs, my dads a truck driver and his rates have to rise with the gas prices.

In RI, we are paying 3.97 at the cheapest place; and that's actually right over the line in Mass!
There's no public transportation where I live at all. I have no option.
And I travel over 30 miles to work each day; each way.
Even if I traveled to the public transportation, I couldn't make it to work on time, cuz the public transportation is so bad! And they are talking about cutting services *more* due to the rising cost of fuel, even as more people are taking it, due to the same reason! You figure it out!

Fire every single public official.
The oil mongels are *still* getting tax supports while they are making record profits! And it's our elected officials who are giving them *our* tax dollars in the form of these tax supports! (Of course, I cannot speak to other countries; I speak only to the USA).

Also, we should be confiscating oil in Iraq. They should be paying for the war; not us! Then, we'll see the end to the war REAL quick! I never agreed to it anyway, but, we shouldn't be paying to protect their oil as we are paying through the nose for it. My neice just came back from Saudi Arabia. They are paying 5 cents/gallon for gasoline!!!

We're all suckers if we keep our elected officials.
Ok. Vent over.

Shalom!

It costs more than twice as much here in the UK so stop whining!

Food costs roughly three times as much compared to the US too, and it is rising all the time lately.

If I convert the New Zealand price per litre to USD per gallon it is almost $US6. Beat that! And I have an injury and can't ride my bike to work

it's 4something here, i try not to look!!! 4.27?? of course you can drive past 5 gas stations in three blocks and each have different prices.........fortunately one of the cheaper stations is down the street from my house....the old man says the gas makes his car knock, i say just turn up the stereo...!!!

we have certainly restricted any "toodling" about for the hell of it........no Sunday Drives........not going camping or doing that RV rental like we were talking about....pretty much drive to work and home. i need to get my car in for an oil change and to check the tire pressure. other than that, just damn glad we don't have oil heat!~!!

I actually filled up today for $3.89, but most places are $3.95 around here. I drive 40 miles, one way to work, so don't go anywhere else unless I have to!

Here in Eastern Central Florida its $3.99 give or take 3 cents by location. Also this week everyones crossing out signs and changing prices, everywhere, restaurants, stores (non chains)ect. Apparently suppliers raised rates on last shipments.

I try not to go anywhere not necessarily, no longer run errands on lunch, changed daycare providers ect

The only gas station in my little n. Michigan village just lowered the price from $4.18 to $4.12; I can't remember the last time the price went down, but I'm sure it's only temporary!

One thing I'm doing, and really enjoying: driving slower, and getting better mileage with my old Subaru. It's kind of fun pissing off the rich tourists who tailgate me on my two-lane road to work; I just grin and think, "I'm getting more for my money than you will when you finally roar past me in your oversized SUV, idiot!"

The ex and I took the boat down to Cedar Point over Memorial day weekend, marina office is down by the fuel dock, price there was actually less than what I paid for gas at a station in Michigan when I did my last fill up, IIRC the price at CP was $4.09. I think the bigger marinas may be subsidizing the cost to bring boaters in, no slip rentals, no business. CP had only a handful of boats in the transient slips that weekend, they have 100 transient slips there, minimum is $50/night. On the way back Monday afternoon and the way down Saturday, did not see the usual parade of powerboats heading to the Lake Erie islands. I think the cost of gas is going to wreck the boating season for most powerboaters and the industry as a whole this year, with the exception of the very high end. Will be interesting to see if there's any renewed interest in sailing as there was during the first gas crisis in the mid-70's.

Personally, I have a 2001 Focus, when I bought the thing after 9-11 it was $12 to fill up, now it is around $40. I drive 70 miles to work round trip, funny noticing all of the older small cars on the road these days. The ex's minivan, centerpiece in this latest drama, is around $85 to fill up, and gets awful mileage. So poor, when she was broke last week and couldn't put gas in her van, she drove my Focus to work several days while I drove my 4 cylinder Ranger, cost me less than putting the gas in her van.

I googled that theres 4.55 litres to a gallon, so thats 2.5 x 4.55 works out as $11.38 (rounded up) per gallon.
