Anybody here use Windows Vista?

I'm looking into buying a new desktop and it's what they mostly come with, but I've found a few at Dell that still come with XP. This would be just for non-techy home use - internet surfing and watching videos, music and photo storage, nothing fancy.

I know the reviews have not been good, but I'm wondering if for basic use it would be okay.

My Mom bought hers with Windows Vista and I was relieved cuz I'm the one she calls to fix her comp. lol on the phone, no less. I thought the new one would be all good.

I'm not sure if it is "Window's Vista" or what, but it is always something random. Last call was, Um Done, My computer sounds like a Chipmunk? Can ya help me?

I'm like hu? Mother......

I would personally stick to Windows XP, but that is me. lol

I'm 17, build computers and program a lot. AKA a geek! lol

Don't get vista! It's krap! XP lasted through the bulk of the 2000's without a hitch, vista is already being replaced next year because microsoft knows it screwed up.

I have vista at home cause it came with the comuter, but i have xp (I think) at work....anyway an earlier version.

I hate vista windows cause i don't use it enough and the environment is in my opinion way different than previous version.

I'm considered one of the best at the computer stuff by the geeks at work, but it took me weeks to figure out how to open a file in word or excell....took a computer geek to explain it to me

now that's what i call progress!!!!

I bought my first new computer last fall and it came with Vista. My computers at work all had XP and I thought I was losing my mind at home! I was so lost. But then, like with everything new, it's uncomfortable. Stressfull.

I just wanted my computer for basics like you. My Son likes Vista a lot more. But then, his Mom's a Polock, his Dad' a Briar . . poor kid, I call him a Polbriar! It's hopeless!

Once I got used to my computer with Vista, it's no big deal to me. Like you, I'm not doing anything complicated. Plus, I can yell loud . . ."Brandon!!!!!"

Good Luck!
Judy

The thing about Vista is Microsoft had promoed the h**l out of the program. They had to hurry to release it. It still has an awful lot of bugs.

Thanks everyone. I still haven't decided what to do, but you all pretty much confirmed what I thought. It's great that we have such groundbreaking "advancements" in technology!

My computer has Vista, too. I heard horrible things about it, but I haven't had any problems at all. I basically only use it for the internet and a few programs. Actually, downloading music is easier than it was on XP. A guy I work with is a computer geek and swears by Mac's...I just couldn't afford one at the time.

I switched because all the PC's I liked had Vista.
I've had absolutely no problem with Vista.

I am using my 5th Hewitt-Packard
also had a Sony ..unhappily
and still on dial up.

...and I am not a techie at all.

I don't know a thing about laptops tho
that might be a difference?

KJ's right, The single button mouse will drive you MAD if you're anything like me.

My problem with vista isn't the environment it uses so much as it's complete lack of interoperability with lots of old and even new hardware.

And lots of stuff like gobbling up all the shiny new ram in your shiny new computer, and other things that I guess are "techie" complaints. lol

It's just too unstable. Then again I'm a total nerd so my needs are a little different XD
