| Attack Of The Mooninites
Wow... How did I miss this last year? Okay, first some background... Meet The Mooninites 01-31-2007 The Expensive Version As part of their advertising campaign for the upcoming movie release last year, glow in the dark signs were placed in various spots in a number of cities to include Boston and Manhattan. The Movie Trailer These were essentially detached "Lite Brite" boards with some D-cell batteries to power them, made out in the shape of two recurring characters, Ignignokt and Err. But I guess people only see what they want to see and Boston freaked out. Apparently someone saw one, called the police and they prompty dispatched the bomb squad. They blew them up... Yes, that's right, the bomb squad "disposed" of them by blowing them up. Buzz TV NBC News Fox News Fenway Park The two advertising guys who were hired to place these "devices", (again we're talking "Lite Brite" signs), were actually arrested. Press Interview I'm reminded of the old "I Love Lucy" episode when Lucy and Ethel dress up as spacemen for a publicity stunt. The whole thing would be funny if it weren't so sad. Official Response What do you think? Has common sense been lost? Do you think this was a bit of an over-reaction to an innovative advertising campaign? Are we living in such fear these days that anything looks suspicious, whether it be an edgy advertising sign or someone simply giving someone else a weird look?
