DEXTER Discussion Continues Here .....

"for those just tuning in "

How many times do you ever get to say THAT in a lifetime?

This discussion began over in the AA forums ...
it began by us trying to figure out what was going on with the series now being broadcast nationally.

Please remember that 'not everyone'
(namely - ME)
can afford to go online and get copies of previous seasons ...
so some of the friends were trying to bring me up to date with the series that I've been having a good time trying to figure out.

we're continuing it here -
please feel free to jump in!

Barb - IMO he might not ever have become a serial killer if his step dad hadn't started "training" him supposedly to "help" him. That is one of the more facinating things I am watching to unfold.
I figured it was something like that - it's not far enough along here for anything to have come through about it - other than he keeps getting these old photos, and 'clues' from someone that gives him flashbacks.
But okay - that makes more sense -
*I* thought maybe his stepdad was some kind of 'bad guy' ... cuz they don't ever show WHAT he did - only a lead in to 'something' then it comes back into the present.

I tell ya, I just finished watching seasons 1 and 2 all within two weeks on ShowtimeOnDemand. I am beginning to think I am addicted to this show now as opposed to booze, lmao. This truly is one of the best shows I have ever seen. It gets you sucked in and anticipating the next episode much like the earlier seasons of The Sopranos. Excellent show, and apparently it is a spin off of a book similarly titled something like Dexter, or at least it has Dexter in the title. I dont really read books unless they are non-fiction, but I may just have to check this one out.

I was that way when 'Lost' first came on -
but then they messed my schedule around at the bar and I missed a season.

I never got caught up after that.

SO I understand.
I just thought it was just ME making a 'thing' out of trying to figure the show out!

I don't 'do' much tv - other than PBS ..
but it looks like this is really a popluar thing?

I think that as the show goes on it becomes more and more clear that Dexter is NOT inherently unable to feel etc., but has rather been taught that he is not suppose to be able to do these things. He was definately messed up by his childhood event, but the foster dad really made things worse. My freinds make a lot of jokes about me for liking this show. They think it sounds pretty sick. But then I also have a very black humor!

Hey Barb, I'm a huge Dexter fan too....and LOST. As for Dex, I think his gf will always put up with his pushing her away. She is needy and a fixer. How far have you gotten in the episodes? I've seen them all, just waiting for new season. So I don't want to give anything away.

OK - we must have something in common in our make-up! I only watch 2 tv shows (other than re-runs and documentary/crime stuff) and that is Dexter, and Lost (with my son).

I think Dex's girl is really changing him. Hope they make it over the long haul.

A little on Lost....My son Chris and I had watched it through the first 2 seasons. Then last season I was so drunk that I didn't remember any of it. I got sober in July and for Christmas Chris gave me the season 3 DVDs (as he had given me the other 2 for the 2 prior christmases) So we watched that season in January before the new season began. He and I watch it together now and it is part of my "amends" to him (what an excuse to watch a show I love!!!!!)

Sorry. Off Topic. Back to Dexter. If you let us know where you are at on the show we will try not to blow it for you. But I might screw up as I don't always remember the order of what happened.

new season is now scheduled to start in October. The writers strike has put it behind a little.

Hi guys, the rerun was good. I love the way dexter's girlfriend is such an alanon really trying to recover! Deb's boyfreind always gave me the creeps! Angel is such a little boy!

I don't think they've ever said much about dexter's adoptive mom. I think that would be interesting. What were her dynamics in the family?

So what are everybodies thoughts after the last re-run. Trying not to spoil things for the people catching up on the show.

Well obviously you havnt heard much or seen much about Dexters adopted mother thus far in the season. I dont know if you have seen anymore than the reruns on CBS or not. But later in season one(which is what CBS is on) you will learn a little more about her, but not much. However, you will find out something interesting about Dexter's biological mother and his step dad Harry. And I am not talking about him being the one that save Dex either, it gets pretty interesting.

I've been watching on showtime all along, but just got sober last July and not sure when that episode was. I think I saw it sober and just don't remember it. thats why I'm watching the reruns....I think I missed some stuff and It's interesting to see things with a new perspective.

Any thing in particular get you started on this show?

Well that is what is funny really......I had never even heard of Dexter, and I have had showtime for years. But one Sunday night I was watching the NCAA BB Tourney and Dexter came on after the game. Heck it was only a little over 3 weeks ago. So I watched it, became intrigued by it, so I googled it. Found out it was a Showtime series and then I found it on ShowtimeInDemand. And it was on after that, lol. Watched the first two seasons in just a couple weeks. I love it, and I cant wait for season 3. Dang, come to think of it I am just glad that Greys Anatomy starts back next Thurs. That truly is a great show too!!

We're gonna have to work on that!

Wantto - glad your joining us! I saw the ads on showtime and started watching. I now know I didn't even miss any episodes....During my drinking It was hard to be sure about much

I wanna catch Barb up on Sunday's eppisode, but my memory is mush and I don't want to mess up and give parts away.

Barb - did you say your getting the first few seasons on DVD soon? That will help. I would like to get them so I can rewatch at my leasure.

Later all.

yes!!! someone from here is kind enough to send me the dvd's cuz I haven't a computer. so I'/m waiting on that - and then ... will be caught up.

I got to say though the bit with the barking dog neighbor -might not have been as amusing had I known the entire story when I watched it ...

I know - I messed up but the house ... was really dirty. From two weeks with almost no days off. I walked in last night and couldn't BELIEVE how clean the house was - LOL
