Loving this book so far!! Can't believe Devon jumped on top of a moving car???? My parents had friends how owned a shepard...she was very very smart. She always herded us around. I wish my lab was as laid back as his are. I guess she is only a year, still a puppy for sure, but still, I long for the days when she will be a little less rambunctious. Happy reading!!

tomm, I don't know how to either. Maybe check with a forum administrator.

Ahimsa, I forgot how much I liked this book. Devon (as all Border Collies) is so intelligent. Did you get to the part about him escaping the fence and all the methods he used? Amazing!

I'm about half done so I don't want to tell you too much in case you haven't gotten that far. Suffice it to say, I just got to a part that made me bawl!!!

Tom,
Please go to the top of the forum.
You will see, on the left hand side, a link for "new post."
Click on it, and a new page will open for you to post what you would like.

Simple as one, two, three!

Shalom!

Ahimsa; how are you doing on the book? Let me know how far you've gotten. Has Homer come into the picture yet?

Sniffle Sniffle....

I just stopped sobbing, after reading about Stanley. He was only 8!!! I can only imagine the guilt Jon must feel about thinking that Devon might have brought on this condition that Stanley had. But I just loved how he took them all up into the woods and fed Stanley steaks :0) Very sweet. I am about halfway done and still haven't hit Homer yet....will let ya know!

I loved the book although I hate any book where and animal dies. Remember "The Cat Who Came for Christmas" I sobbed in the last one. I actually finished the book (again) and found there's a sequel to it so I started that now.

P.S. Homer is a good thing!!!

Finished the book!! Such a sweet one :0) I just love feel-good books...especially dog ones. I want to read the first book he wrote...forgot what it's called, about the mountains, and his 2 labs. Anyway, I am so excited now to get our puppy...less than 3 weeks! I was worried about how the two dogs would get along, but I am sure it couldn't be worse than Devon and Homer. Hopefully more like Julius and Homer. I work ALL DAY tomorrow, so I won't be able to make it to the library until Thursday. I will look for Let The Northern Lights Erase Your Name. In the meantime, I have about 4 or 5 library books I want to read also...I can't help but pick up a few everytime I go, and they just keep piling up! In the stack to be read right now is: My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult, The Bookseller of Kabul by Asne Seierstad, The Swallows of Kabul by Yasmina Khadra, and Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi. Not to mention the books I own that I haven't read yet. I will let you know when I get my paws on the Northern Lights book. Happy reading!!

Ahimsa, I actually read "Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name" It was different; really good though.

Why don't you pick one now? I'm reading Jon Katz's "Dogs of Bedlam Farm" the sequel to "A Dog Year" He adds another Border Collie to his pack and so far it's just as easy a read and enjoyable as the first one.

Poor Julius and Stanley, though. I cried when both of them died, especially when Jon called him a jerk when he was licking the vet and said "they're killing you" I only hope when my time comes, it's that calm and loving.

And Devon just tugged at my heart. Such a difficult complex dog. We once had a border collie mix who was born wild. We adopted her but she wouldn't let us touch her for 6 months! It took many years of gentle coaxing before she let us in and we realized she had more love to give than most humans. She lived for 9 years more after we got her and she died peacefully in our arms. She reminded me so much of Devon (except she couldn't open refrigerators)

I am a definite lab lover and I cried so hard when they both died Yes, the "jerk" part just killed me... Grew up with a black lab and we had to put her to sleep when I was in 8th grade and I just couldn't handle it so I waited outside (the vet came to our home) until she was gone and they took her away. Looking back I wish I would have been there with her...It would have been nice closure.

Did any of those books in my previous post sound good??? Fiction? Nonfiction??.....

I've gotta get the kids up for school so I'll go back and look later and let you know. There was one; I just can't remember the name of it.

Ahimsa, was one of the books "The Memory Keeper's Daughter"? While sad, it looks very good. Let me know if that one's good.

Ahimsa, did you suggest that book? I don't want to hog the book choice. I just thought I saw a while back that was one of your suggestion (and of course I'm too lazy to look, lol) If that wasn't one of your choices, you pick a book you really want to read!

P.S. What did you name the puppy?
