The Dance by Garth Brooks -- I am so not a Garth Brooks fan, but, man, I dig the message of that song. Flyin' Shoes by Townes Van Zandt -- The first time I heard this song, I thought it was about dying and trying to explain to those you're leaving behind. Later, I heard Townes himself say the song was about a Civil War ghost he dreamed up. I've also heard one of Townes's ex-wives say the song was about her. Either way, it always tugs my heart strings. Lyle Lovett also does a wonderful version of this song, but, somehow, I like Townes's version best. He always managed to sound so sad. Redemption Song by Bob Marley -- I didn't like this song for a long time after it played in the closing credits of I am Legend, which I thought was way overdone. However, I do like the message of this song, and the way Bob sang it. It sounds so poignant when he sings, "'Cause all I ever have/Redemption songs." Old Man by Neil Young -- This reminds me of an old friend who died. I cry every time I hear it because my mind's eye plays a slideshow of scenes from his life. Betterman by Pearl Jam -- It's really seeing this done in concert that gets me. You can just tell the song has great meaning and is loved by a lot of people. Amsterdam by Coldplay -- It's the lyrics on this one: Come on, oh my star is fading

For the record, the version played in I am Legend was the Bob Marley studio version. It's the one on the greatest hits album.

A songs lyrics don't do it for me... music has almost nothing to do with the words, in my little world. I am hesitant, however, to post the things that do bring tears to my eyes. I'm likely get a lot of "what the heck is wrong with you" type responses. But here's one that seems to work every time. or if you prefer live versions, complete with lots of hair twirling ![]() -Goat |
