I miss Waffle House...

... the one thing I miss most about the south ...

late night coffee marathons at the Waffle House.

There aren't any here in Montana.

If I had the $$$... I'd open one.

Sounds yummy.

Awwww, (((Barb))) and we have a gazillion Waffle Houses here....get your hash browns scattered, covered, smothered and smushed (okay, so smushed isn't an option but I like the sounds of it )

For those not from the south, all those things mean what you want on your hash browns - onions, chili, cheese. I've never worked at the WH, but my friend has, for years.

They never close - one had to close for some reason, and no one had a key because the doors hadn't been locked in years.

(((Barb))) - if I could, I'd zap you here by e-mail

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

my X & I lived right down the road from Waffle House #1.

On Memorial Drive.
The new cooks would come there for their introduction to cooking.

Gosh that's been twenty years.

But - ten years ago, when I went back east
\(for about 7 months)
the FIRST waffle house we came to
we stopped.

LOL!

My uncle visisted from CA, and he couldn't figure out why there were so many of them so close together...right across the street from each other? The same restaurant?

Believe it or not, they've actually closed down several in Atlanta..first time I've ever seen that happen in the 20+ years I've been here. Last I heard, there were 11 or 12 that were shut down.

They even have signs "14 meals under $5" or something like that - another sign of the poor economy.

Country ham'n'eggs

Hey, do you know that XABF #2 - the one who introduced me to crack, was a COOK at WH? He didn't last very long, though..too busy smoking dope to show up for work.

I never could make biscuits. I may have lived in GA my entire life, but was born in MN and I am missing the "biscuit making" gene, as well as the "grits eating" gene

I'll join ya for grits anytime, any day, drenched in butter and cheese, and biscuits and gravy too. A big pile of 'em.

I was born in IL and moved to AZ at an early age, but that doesn't mean I don't like southern cooking. Our kitchen cabinets are full of cast iron cookware, there's nothing more satisfying to the soul than good, hardy food cooked in dutch ovens or a heavy seasoned pan.

I don't believe I've ever been in a Waffle House. Is it like Bob Evans? I had some really yummy gravy and biscuits there once. Grits, well, must be an acquired taste. I like them with lots of butter and cheese!

There's nothing like a good biscuit though. With honey and butter. Or to sop up pot likker!

Love,

Lenina

We were in Jawwwwja (Georgia) in June, had to stop by Krystal and pick up a family pack, something like 35 burgers. I think I was the only one who was really crazy about them

Sometimes I fry up my grits in butter until they're like crispy pancakes. Does anyone else do that? Momma taught me that one

((Lenina)) Bob Evans's are bigger. Waffle Houses are pretty small - have big yellow/black letters (Brit learned them before she knew how to read!!) on their sign and are EVERYWHERE!!!

I think California has White Castles, which are just like our Krystals...little bitty burgers

((Barb)) I'm just going to have to find a way to get you back on a visit to GA, huh? I keep meaning to take a picture of the big chicken at the KFC by work..one of these days I'll remember!

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

I don't think I've ever seen a White Castles here. I've enjoyed those little burgers in New Jersey and New York though and liked them! Probably good for me I don't know where they are as I am plump enough!

And I woke up craving biscuits and a big pots of greens!

Love,

My uncle Dave was from MN and was a big man - he believed in eating BIG meals. Dad took him to a Krystals, one time when they were here, and uncle Dave looked at the little burgers and bellered "WHAT THE HE!! IS THIS?!?!?! I NEED AT LEAST 50 OF THESE THINGS, ARE YOU CRAZY!???!" Uncle Dave wasn't known for his tact and diplomacy

My g'pa thought grits were cream of wheat (also from MN). Mom had to stop him as he tried to put milk and sugar on them.

Now, I'm hungry again. Good thing I'm heading to work, shortly, and I work in a restaurant, huh?

Hugs and prayers!

I love WH and southern cooking in general, but Krystals suck compared to White castles. If I ran White Castle, I'd come down south and put in a White Castle as close to every Krystal store as I could.

Krystal would be out of business in a year.

LOL!

I can't tell the difference, dg - LOL

anyhow - they don't have them up here, either.
or Krispy Kreme.
or Krystal.
or Bonanza (whick, you'd think they would being cow country)
Steak and Ale

If they put in a bennigan's or even a Appleby's
they'd probably have people shooting each other
to be first in line!

that is one thing that sucks about butte.
