Xmas Mailing Info

Hi Everyone....

I mailed my Army Grandson Sean ... stationed in Afghanistan
his Xmas box today

Soooo......if any of you in the US.
have plans to get a box to a service member overseas ......

you go to your Post Office and ask for a Flat Rate Box.
They are free....they'll give you the customs slip
and lable.
The mailing cost? Large size is the
best deal....$11.95 regardless of weight.
Dec. 4 is the suggested deadline for Xmas delivery.

Chocolate melts in transit..unless it is M&M's.

Carol,

Can you mail something to "any American soldier"? I don't know anyone over there. Also what are good things to send?

I am not sure.....but I would check with the
VFW---Red Cross or USO ...they might have info.

That's really a generous idea dgillz...

When Sean was there for 15 months on his first toour
he was up in the mountains .he requested items such as
soap....toothpaste...disposible razors...shaving crean...deordorant
shampoo..lip balm...Vicks salve..cough drops..black ski masks.
along with junk food. There was no PX in that area.

He's only been gone for 2 months this time....so far...it's
snacks that are on his wish list....

I sent....nuts-dried fruit-candy canes-Granola Bars-M&M'_
squirt Cheeses-Ritz Crackers-sunflower seeds-pouches of
various drinks that came with a straw. For filler....
Dum Dum pops wedged against the other packages.

Attention - GOD Thing alert!

CAROL!!!!!

Just as I posted that -

A MARINE walked in to my store!
All decked out in his camo
You'd have to have polarized glasses
just to see him...LOL

So I told him about the thread and asked
if he knew offhand
what webpage or organization
does that -

and here is what he said to me:

ANY Salvation Army ...
has information if they don't DO the mailing themselves.

Which is funny...I'd always thought of them like
'God's army' and not ... uh... THE army.... you know?

ALSO-

it's called 'Family Assistance Foundation"
and your Fort or base of choice, apparently.

Here in Montana -
it's Fort Harrison.

But down where YOU are, Carol -
Ft. Mac
Dobbins
Benning

...will have info and can give directions.

I'm DOIN this!!!!

Than you , Carol
what a wonderful way to get out of my own head
and do something worthwhile
anonymously!!!!

(yes, mouse... like sneaky ... as in not a creature stirring )

Before any of us do anything else,
Stop and think of the "reason for the season."

Today's the 4th!
It's not too late to do something for our
young men and women
serving far away from home this year.
Please consider sending something.

Even if you can only send a letter,
or a card, expressing your gratitude
for their service to our country.
It would mean the world to them!
As they are so far away
from their own loved ones
during this blessed season,
ensuring our safty.

Of course, if you *can* send a
goodie bag, filled with treats
like those suggested above,
(by our dear beloved Carol)
All the better!

Just do whatever you can.
And remember our blessings
as we think of others
who give to us daily
and sometimes, give their all...
