For all his foibles, the "liberal lion" of the Democratic Party stood for the poor and the oppressed, indeed, for every person. His legislative achievements included bills to provide health insurance for children of the working poor, the landmark 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act, Meals on Wheels for the elderly, abortion clinic access, family leave, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Every American owes a debt of gratitude to this man who gave his life to the Senate; to his country. Mass. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy dies at age 77 - Yahoo! News Edward, "Teddy" Kennedy died this morning. May he rest in peace. Shalom!

A note from the President, on the death of the senior statesman: Quote:
For your service to your country. Not too many can hold a candle to what you accomplished during your time on earth. Shalom!

I sincerely hope no one will judge me solely by the single worst act of my life. Or you either. Kennedy sponsored over 300 pieces of legislation for people - regular, everyday people - who didn't have a level playing field. These include the children; the elderly; the poor; and every minority in the USA. Our country is a better place because of him. These acts do not diminish the seriousness of his grievious mistakes. I don't think anyone has tried to do so - least of all me. So, I think I'll quote another, very famous Jew right now: "Let those who are without sin cast the first stone." He will meet his Maker. That is where the judging will be done. In the meantime, Ted Kennedy gave almost 50 years of service to his country. Can anyone else here say that they have given so much? That type of service *is* something to be grateful for; something to remember him for. He made the US a better place to live because he was a true patriot who learned the real meaning of "noblesse oblige;" that with great privilege comes responsibility. And he managed this public service while being the patriarch of the family. Jackie Kennedy said to him, at Caroline's wedding, "To you fell a burden that a hero would beg to be spared." Ted Kennedy became the surrogate father to Bobby Kennedy's 11 children and John's 2 after their untimely deaths. His own children suffered cancer and an amputated leg as a result, asthma, mental health issues and drug and alcohol issues. He met these issues head on, and continued to deal with our country's grave concerns. At the same time, he knew many of his MA constitutients by name, and often made phone calls or visited them, including every MA family member who lost of loved one in 9-11. *That* is the definition of a public servant. This youngest of 9 children didn't have the easiest time in life, even as he was blessed with money, power and prestiege. Yet, he kept his extended family together and he served his country. And that's more than many of us can lay claim to. No, he wasn't perfect. Ted Kennedy was a mortal human being, with all the flaws of everyman. And it is exactly because of this fact that he deserves to rest in peace. ![]() Shalom!

This is a lovely tribute, Teach, to a man who rose above adversity and put into action what most could only dream. My prayers go out for his family and all who loved him.

Years ago....he often jogged by the D.C. restarant I worked in. He would slide in the bar..."A Bud please" Put $3 down for the $1.50 beer....gulp while standing and out the door again. He did not expect any special attention. We giggled that he was checking out the White House 2 blocks away. I was sadden by his death....the end of Camelot however flawed the man and the concept It was a glorious time of hope for the future. ![]() Sen. Kennedy was a driving force for good in America. He rose to the office he held with honor.
