| No more merlot, more mamma | Rachel Getting Married
So, has anyone seen this film? I just finished watching it tonight, and I have to say, I'm disturbed. The way it shows how addiction can wreck havoc on a family was very profound. Took a while to get into but grabs you at a certain point.. Seriously not a "feel good" movie but I highly recommend it. Just call me Gene Shalit. (damn, I'm old)

Yea I watched it. I like it, I wish they would have cut parts of it out though, I think it would have made more of an impact or more people would have like it I should say if they wouldn't have dragged it out so much in certain parts of it. They did so good at depicting what addiction can do, but they lost the audience I think a few times. Anyways, it was really good I thought, but disturbing to me, and it left me with a bad feeling in a few ways...... I Love Anne Hathaway...... though, I think she did amazing as always..

What she went through before is what was really hard for me, or disturbing I should say, I don't know if I could recover from that, my gut feeling is to say No, I Know I couldn't. I like movies and books like that, that make me think, especially when I come back to boards like this, it reminds me to have compassion, and even more compassion because we Never know, never know what is behind the screen or even in f2f what is going on with someone or what they have been through. Sometimes people are like they are for such strong reasons. That movie was a good reminder of that.

I liked the movie, but I have a hard time really describing all my reactions to it. Some of it was very realistic and cut close to my life, and some of it was a little dull, and some was just good drama and acting. It is probably one of those 'your miles may vary' movies. I think they depicted the codependent and denial stuff quite well. The upper-middle class home sort of took the edge off the scary money situations that many families face. I totally did not recognize Debra Winger. |
