| Humorous tomes. Hello all! I've been exploring SR away from the safe confines of my usual Newcomers area and am loving all of the great (new) books every ones talking about here.In my recovery I've sunk my teeth into a lot of 'healing' books- self help, AA literature etc. I've got *Living Sober * The Language Of Letting Go * Daily Reflections *Embracing Our Selves *AA Big Book * God In All Worlds *Making Miracles In Forty Days. I've also nibbled at *12 Steps to Re-parenting * Toxic Parents *The Happiness Trap *24 hours type reflections book-I forget the title * Dale Carnegie books . I've also d/loaded and printed mindfulness information as well as anxiety related writings. Right now, I am sooo tired of any helpful reading and would really like to find some good humour books where I can have a good laff! Carl Hiaasen is about the only guy I have in my bookcase and his books have been re- read too many times. Funny, now even my taste in reading is not so glum in sobriety! My bookcase needs a cull! Can anyone share their pick/s for an intelligent and funny, laugh out loud read with me? Thanks in advance! Love.

Harry Crews books have a Carl Hiaasen flavor too them. I recall Breslin's The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight as being kind of funny. Charles Bukowski's short stories and novels could be called dark comedies. People rave about "A Confederacy of Dunces" calling it the funnest book they've ever read. I'm not one of them. If I can think of any more, I'll post them. |

Does it have to be new? I love the hitchhikers guide to the universe series. But I am kinda a nerd and like British humor.

| Thanks for posting! I read Post Office and Hitch Hikers when I was in my teens- will give them a look see again!. Confederacy Of Dunces is also on my bookcase- not sure that it's a re- read though. Actually, might skip Bukowski for now !! Too scathing for me right now Thanks!Love.
