Excited to start reading again.

Hi everyone,

I just joined sr a few days ago. Throughout some of threads I was reading I kept seeing people mention this book called Drinking: A Love Story. I picked it up and read it in two days. I couldn't put it down. It was the first book I have read in at least a year. I used to be a really avid reader but obviously reading is not easy to do when your drunk all the time. I'm really looking forward to reading again and it has always played a big role in staying sober in the past. I'm looking forward to getting some ideas and discussing.

Amy

Amy you came to the right place! I love to read as well and did read a book or two a week while drinking for decades. I get to enjoy them again and remember them this time!

Thanks for the welcome. I love reading biographies and history. Right now I'm reading the Zappos Experience for work. We get optional reading assignments in my job. Usually they're related to leadership theory or organizational culture. My boss always seems hurt no one reads the books she wants us to read so I'm making an effort to read this one. I'm also starting a little quick guide to the 12 steps because I know absolutely nothing about them.

I've never heard of this kind of thing. Can you explain it a bit more? I'm curious.

Ghostly. Where I work we do a lot of professional development. It's just an important thing to our president that we are always learning and growing in some way. Everyone in the organization is expected to always be continuing their education in some way whether its by going back to school to get another degree or going to conferences. We also read a lot of books together. Sometimes we do it as an entire team and sometimes we do it in smaller groups. When we do it as a team we usually have half or whole day retreats where we talk about the books. When we do it in smaller groups we tend to meet for lunch weekly to discuss. The books are always about leadership, management, emotional intelligence or organizational culture.

That sounds incredible. I am honestly amazed (in a good way) something like this exists.

Can I just ask...do you typically work around 40 hours a week? Is this all part of the 40 hours? What kind of work is this?

I totally understand if you don't wanna answer any of these. Especially if you feel it interferes with anonymity. I'm just really curious.
