| Miss Grumpy Pain in the Pants | Patricia Cornwell
I'm a new fan of hers. I love the Scarpetta series and am a huge fan of the audio books. I'm in my car about an hour every day and it makes me WANT to get in the car and drive.

| orbital boy | I used to be a huge Cornwell fan . Even worse, all of the characters seem to have completely lost it, including Scarpetta. My aunt commented on a subplot of one of the latest books and I realized that I'd accidentally skipped 150 pages of that book without even noticing it O_o

I too used to be a HUGE Scarpetta fan but PC lost me after Trace.. she changed from writing in 1st person to writing in 3rd person and it really took away from the characters and the plot.. I have often been tempted to pick up where I left off but keep finding other things to read.. Her earlier stuff is great though and if you like Patrica Cornwell you will love Linda Fairstien and Kath Reichs. |

I can only agree, I loved her earlier books but I think at some point she must have had a major breakdown, starting with the book where the bereaved mother chases marino through her house in milatary gear, biting and beating him. ![]() The plots only seem to get more rambling and disjointed from then on, I hope the poor woman gets some help.

I quit listening to her books ages ago when Scarpetta's gung ho niece became so involved in the novels. I too wondered if Cornwell had a mental blip that lasted. The early ones were super!

I too am a fan of Cornwell. I have listened and read all the Scarpetta series and many of her other books. Some of you have mentioned a downward turn in her writing, I think that an author can only go so far with a character, then it just doesn't work anymore. I used to like Stephen King; however, once he got hit by that van his writing got real wierd and I haven't read any of his new stuff. A previous poster said that Marino turned caucasion.....wasn't he always caucasion? |

lucky you paper doll - i can remember when i started reading her.... i just gobbled those books up. i agree with a lot of the comments-her writing did get worse. i think it was when she took kay (well crap I don't want to spoil it for you) but things end up happening for kay and benton that just don't seem only far-fetched but totally not in character for either of them. so the books lost the credibility for me. she's evidentally come to her end with these characters. it would be better if she just made up a whole new set of characters to begin a new series (i hate to say that - i dearly love kay, benton, marino and lucy)

| orbital boy | Magpie, in "Postmortem", the very first description of Marino clearly states that he's African-American / black. I'm positive about this. It's funny because I've had this argument with other Cornwell fans... seems like Patsy either forgot all about this, or just decided to change his skin colour in later books |
