| Anyone a Bookworm?
I LOVE to read! I thought maybe we could perhaps start a reading group, or maybe just write down what we're reading? Right now, I'm reading: "Those Who Save Us" by Jenna Blum A very interesting fiction story about a young girl, who's German mother grew up in the time of WWII. The mother was liberated by an American Soldier, and brought to America. "101 things you should do before going to heaven" "by David Borden and Tom Winters I just picked this up today. Looks interesting. One of the things is to bite into a hot pepper! "Smoke, Mirrors and Murders" by Ann Rule The newest true murder by Ann Rule. (I guess my reading is well diversified, eh?)

I'm in the middle of Ann Rules new paperback "Too Late to Say Goodbye" right now along with Vincent Bugliosi's book on the Kennedy Assassination Conspiracy theories. How is Smoke, Mirrors and Murders?

The next book I plan on reading is John Douglas's book on the BTK killer. It just came out in hardcover so I will buy it after I get my next paycheck.

I love a story where I can just get all caught up, indentify with the characters, and lose myself.

I think I'm going to stay up late tonight and finish my book. ![]() I always hate to finish a good book, I wish it would go on forever and ever. They need to make the good books even thicker! That's one of my qualifications when I buy a book...how thick it is!

Finished those who save us...it was pretty good. The story concerned a woman born in Germany, who falls in love with a Jewish man, and becomes PG, (he doesn't know) she harbors him in her fathers house, the man is caught, she leaves her abusive father, and has to find her way duing the war. I have never really heard many stories from the German side of the Holocaust, so this interested me. Although it is fiction, could be true. Happy reading....

Rowan - I received "Eat Pray Love" for Christmas (which was so coincidental as a program friend had just RAVED about it!!), but I've not had time to start it, yet. I recently finished Mitch Albom's "One More Day"... and gave it to my alcoholic son to read. His books are SO short and bittersweet. Another two by Mitch Albom that I loved are: "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "The Five People You Meet When You Get to Heaven" Excellent, excellent!! Of course, I am a horror/sci-fi fan - but there isn't much sci-fi anymore, so I read everything Stephen King writes... and read "Blaze" not too long ago. Greg Isles (crap, is that how it is spelled?) "Evil" (it is the one with snakes on the cover) - that one is not too bad. Kept me turning those pages!!! I love to escape in a good book - reading saved my sanity when I was growing up in a violent, alcoholic home. I could ignore some pretty incredible stuff if I was deep enough into my pages.... Thanks for this thread, Moose!

Moose, I love Ann Rule books and have read every single one of them. I love getting into a book and seeing how people's minds work. The new book is on my library list. I just finished Eat, Pray, Love and I thought it was great. I wasn't expecting to like it, but I thought it was very good. Has anyone read "Running with Scissors"? Boy, if you thought your childhood was dysfunctional! |

Finished the Ann Rule book. It was a good read, as usual. Now I've just started "In Search of Eden" by Linda Nichols I just started it, but I believe it has to do with a teenager that gives her baby up for adoption... I have read "Running with Scissors" I believe that was based on a true story, right? It was CRAZY! I read the inner flap on Eat, Pray, Love, and it didn't catch my interest. But with all of you saying it's pretty good, I may have to read it!

It was difficult for me to recommend "Glass Castle" to a non-program friend of mine. It was good....but left me angry with the mom - more angry than I think the author intended. I just over-identified with those abandoned kiddos, I think. And I have read Dry and Running with Scissors and the other one - about the advertising business. These are even better on tape, I think... easier to follow. A while back, I read the Notebook and found myself unexpectedly liking it (I don't DO romance!). Another good one is Snowflower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.... very acurate, and difficult to read at times. Coming of age in China during the 1800s (?) - another unexpected gem.

I read 'Dry" too and really liked it. I LOVED "The Glass Castle" and it still is with me, though I read a long time ago. Jeannette Wall was so honest and clear in her memoir. It is an amazing book. |
