I am going to be a year sober on January 17. The first year of sobriety has had so many wonderful times in it.

Most things in my life are either BS or AS. Before sobriety or after sobriety.

The AS is much better than the BS. It WAS BS for sure.

Now I am getting a little bored with life.

After getting sober there were MANY firsts.

First sober day.

First sober week.

First sober month.

First sober sex. (THAT was scary, but great)

First sober vacation.

First sober dinner out.

First sober July 4th.

First sober birthday.

You get the idea.

Now, I feel like I have done all of that and I am bored with life.

I love excitement. Almost to a fault.

I am bored in my marriage. I have never had an affair and I am surely not going to start that in sobriety.

I am bored with daily life.

I got EXCITED about using. Now there is not that type of excitement.

Of course, there is also not the excitement of detox, jail and blackouts.

What about exploring a new hobby? Join a walking or running club? Get outside, and get active. Take your dog out in the forest and explore nature?
Boredom was a big problem for me, Tan, but the longer I've been sober I've been able to take new risks and get myself out participating in life.
Maybe google 'boredom' and see what you come up with? You never know!
Make a list of things you always wanted to do/see - doesn't matter how big or small the dream - make the list limitless. And see if there's a place to start.
    What do you think?

Thanks Ro. I appreciate the advise. I did take up needlepoint this past year. But the only place I do it is at meetings.

I think my dog would like to go for a walk. I started weight watchers last week so I need to go out and walk anyways.

I think it is a great idea.

    Off to google boredom.

    YOU rock!

Life happens whether we use or not Tanya. It doesn't have to be boring now that you're sober. Hobby's are good to pass the time, you have your studies for now and then a new carreer I assume? That should be something to look foward to.

You can create excitement you know...believe me I can find just as much fun or trouble to get into even though I'm not drinking any more. It's a change of perspetive maybe?

ive been having the exact same problem so thank you for posting this...after a year and a half in sobriety i find myself w/ hardly any good friends i can have fun w/ because im always the youngest person at every meeting. i love my AA family, but none of them have the same interests or energy that i do, and are busy with careers and families. i obviously cant hang out w/ my old drug and drinking buddies and my one good friend is at college. if you find a good hobby or idea, email me! thanks again for the post

I completely understand where you are coming from! I have been sober off and on, but find that each time I am off, I am bored, stressed, and looking for release.

Please if anyone has additional ideas, pass them along! Sounds like we both need ideas for creative outlets!

Hang in there! We can make it togetherr!
