They Told Me...
They told me to think about it.
They told me to talk everyday.
They told me they didn't want to see me do it.
They told me I was heading down the wrong road.
They told me if I did it nothing would change.
They told me if I did it, it would be the true end.
They told me if I did it there would be no relief.
They told me if I did it I would cause more hurt.
They told me if I did it more shame would be brought.
They told me if I left everyone would be missing something.
They told me I was lacking something.
They told me that I better take this.
They told me if I stopped it something bad would happen.
They told me that I'll end up in a worse place the next time.
They told me that I was worth it.
They told me it would get better.
They told me lies.

Jason, this verse is simply brilliant -- filled with raw pain but brilliant nonetheless. Style and talent aside, I need to tell you that I needed to read this tonight. I see that it was posted on 3/11, yet I discovered it tonight. Thank you for sharing your verse with me and for easing the trouble in my heart.
When we're hurting, my dear friend, EVERYTHING good seems to be a lie. It seems to be a lie, not because it isn't true, but because our pain renders us temporarily unable to see the truth. Because I am not blinded by your pain, I can assure you that, contrary to your closing line, many of the things listed were not lies. So, when you can't see it for yourself, would you trust what my eyes can see?
I'm struggling with feeling that, like everything else in my life, recovery will leave me the same as I am, despite any promises. Reading your verse tonight and seeing the truth where you could not perceive it, has made me wonder what truths my pain might be keeping from me.
I think that we both can use one of these.Posted 03-13-2009 at 08:45 PM by christin1225
