Cats in General

I feel like writing tonight. I'm not going to write about my drinking tonight though. I am going to my home group meeting tomorrow night. Hopefully this time i open my mouth up and share.
I want to write about cats tonight. I have loved cats since i was about 13 when we got our first cat Charlie. Most all of the cats my family has gotten including myself were either strays or in shelters. Some were unwanted kittens.
I can't stress how important it is to have your pet spayed or neutered. There are so many unwanted kitty's in shelters because of people not taking care of them or just not wanting them anymore.
I'm also a firm believer that you should keep your cats inside. Period. Their safer that way from injuries, diseases, and the elements.
Some of you know about my oldest cat Tammy having diabetes. She's still doing well. I've learned to get over my fear of giving her her shot everyday. She goes to the vet again on Monday. We're still trying to get her diabetes under control. We had to up her dosage of insulin. So hopefully everything works out OK on Monday.

My kitty has chronic renal failure and I'm grateful for every day she is okay. I don't have to give her any shots yet, I hope I can get over the fear as you did.Posted 01-12-2008 at 05:05 AM by Pesel

Something I've recently realized with my old pets (3 cats and 1 dog-14 to 18 years old) is to be grateful for them each day instead of fearing today I'll lose them. I need to enjoy them while they are here. They are such precious company!
I agree with you completely about spaying, neutering, and keeping them inside. My local vet says the average lifespan of an outdoor cat is 5 years. (As opposed to my old pets!). That's worth it!Posted 01-12-2008 at 08:56 AM by someonessister

I have a cat, Jack, who is neutered and who stays inside. My female, Tilley, lives in the basement and is spayed. She was a stray I picked up at work several years ago. Our basement flooded and poor Tilley was in shock. I created a safe haven for her in my daughter's closet and she is the happiest I've seen her in a long time.

I love my animals. Shortly, I have to give three of my cats to my exH. Even though they will be right next door, I won't see them unless I visit (indoor only cats). I honestly don't want them to go, but we have too many at this point and one of my cats is getting beat up a lot..so I think she'll be happier. I agree with Barb..we should have an animal section! Glad that Tammy is doing ok!Posted 01-16-2008 at 05:23 AM by NOMOMERLOTMAMMA

Wow, been a while since i posted on this blog.
First off- Welcome Deltanurse to SR. You can go over to the forums in the newcomers forum and introduce yourself. Sr is a great forum with a lot of great people on here that won't judge.
I guess i should update my cat blog. I wrote about all this on the forums a long time ago, so i should put it over here on my blog since it's still on here.
I lost little Tammy back in Feb. She was almost 16 years old. She ended up making a turn for the worse with her diabetes and died from kidney failure. I was only 30 days sober when it happened and didn't drink.
In May 2008 we lost another Kitty. Kitty-Sue ended up having health problems. We never did find out what was wrong with her. We had a lot of tests and x-rays done. The Dr. thinks she might of had the beginning stages of cancer in her bladder. We had to put her down. I was a little over 10 days sober and didn't drink.
Today we still have two cats left. Chloe and Lois. There both getting all excited about Christmas. They know it's coming when they see their stocking is up an all the other Christmas decorations.
Next month I will be 1 year sober. It's been quite a roller coaster ride this year with getting sober and having sick cats, health problems myself, and I made it thought it all.
One day at a time is how I done it, and I'm very grateful I'm sober now for myself and my babies.Posted 12-15-2008 at 10:02 AM by scaredykat
