"If only there is a drug I can take that will make me not want to drink..."

I say this ALL THE TIME! Just thought I'd add that.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Topomax. I'm glad it seems that you're learning more and more about yourself and what exactly it is that YOU need to get well and be happy and sober. It would be nice just to swallow and pill and BAM, the desire to drink is diminished. It sounds like it might have been a mental thing. I am sure reading the book was motivating and deciding to start a plan with this medication and the therapy and everything else was exciting and it probably was working because you wanted it to. And one thing changed your whole mindset and it stopped working just like that. That's just what I got from reading this, maybe I'm wrong. I can just see myself doing the same thing. I don't doubt that it caused your depression, it seems like most everything does anymore, including anti-depressants! I sure do wish there was something I could take to make me think like a sober person, just completely forget about alcohol. But I know I just have to change my whole mind set. I think you'll be fine on your own, you seem like you know yourself and what works for you very well. Good luck!

You said it best: a shortcut to sobriety is not a reality.

Sobriety/recovery are hard work! Keep reading, sharing, and posting here and stay in today as best you can. There is a lot of support here, and you don't have to do this alone.

Thanks so much for your share - I'm grateful that you made it back to us.
