I feel you. I have a friend coming into town, and she's already talking about hitting the bars, beers on the beach, etc. If you figure out how to socialize and not drink, please let me know! I'm on day one and dealing with detox. (Tough to type when my hands won't stop shaking.) Good luck with everything! Hopefully we can both get through this!Posted 08-19-2009 at 09:07 PM by Priss

8 Months Clean
Everything takes time. This is something we all need to learn. Recovery doesn't come over night; it's a process. I'm a heroin addict; so it's a little different, however, addition is addition. One day you'll be able to go to a bar and just be sober and have fun, maybe you won't be able to at all. Don't put yourself in a bad situation. Everything comes over time. "We didn't become addicted in one day, so remember, easy does it." Each day you'll feel stronger, but that doesn't mean you're recovery is over. It never is; it's a learning process. If one day you'd like to go to a bar and just have fun and be sober, you need to train your mind that bars don't = drinking. I know that sounds weird. You need to look at it as a hang out spot. That's not going to come over night. Just be safe, and both fellowships, AA & NA work if you work it.
